Android Central Question

It is supposed to be upgradeable to Pie 9 but I can't find a way to load the new OS??

I tried "about tablet" (the only option I see) in settings to no avail and downloaded several APK's but they just loaded and hung or told me I was off line. Is there a backdoor, Easter egg or straightforward download available from somewhere?

The tablet is much better than the 8" it will replace but the Xfinity video streaming is very laggy (youtube and other video sources work fine) and that is one of the major reasons I bought it.

I can return it but want to give it a chance to run on Pie to see if it improves...

Thanks to mustang 7757 but your guest link just led me to the register page.

Thank you!

That's the point. To have a continued conversation about the same topic, we ask that you register so you can reply within the same thread to keep everything together.

Somewhere in the settings should be a spot to check for updates. I seem to recall Oreo having a search box in Settings, can you search for Update and see if you get a result?

I left the registration so we could continue to engage in a conversation , guest that post have limitations. Don't worry its free to do so. Just makes it harder to communicate with us here if you don't.

OK, I'm a member.

I agree, there should be a spot to check for updates but there isn't. I did use the settings search but it only turned up "automatic system updates" and switching that on does nothing.

Amazon and Foren-tek show the tablet runs on Android 8.1 but when I access the Easter egg it turns up the Nougat "N" logo. Either way I would like to upgrade the OS or send it back. Is there a download available to update software?

The only thing I am concerned about it that security patch from 2017. Which means your tablet is already 3 years out of date already for security issues. Does that bother you?

I highly doubt there's any further official updates for that device. No-name or off-brand devices can be notorious for playing fast and loose with their reported specs (i.e., they lie about what OS version the device has). The device might say that it's on Oreo, but it might actually be on Nougat. You can see more examples if you tune in to Smoorez's YouTube channel -- he likes buying cheap terrible devices on sites like Wish and Joom which claim to be superpowered devices, but are in reality terribly out of date and underpowered. You can see how shady manufacturers can easily lie about all kinds of specs.

Thank you. Still not sure if I'm sending it back.

Turns out Xfinity stream defaults to what they feel is best feed for your device. I changed that setting to let me control HD or standard and the tablet can be used for watching sports/movies.

Not happy they lied about the OS but if it lasts me a couple years it was worth 90 bucks...
