I received an android update to 4.2.2 on HTC Developer Edition, how is this possible?

Hi,

I've got the HTC Developer Edition two days ago, and while I'm studying all the usual features, I checked for updates and received a message that an update for the operating system is available to 4.2.2 firmware. As far as i know ( If I'm not mistaken) the dev edition should skip 4.2.2 and jump straight to Android 4.3 so how is this possible? I added a screenshot.

^ this.

Yuppers. But you'll still probably get 4.3 on the dev/gpe before everyone else does.

The 2.24.980.2 update was for unbranded phones, but not the Developer Edition. Can you please check your CID using this app: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ls?id=org.tritonsoft.cidgetter&token=uvY6T9Ya

You should see the CID in red at the top. this is a screenshot of the Developer Edition:

4.2.2 hasn't been released for the Dev edition, and according to HTC it won't ever be. I'm betting your CID is HTC_039. This means the phone sold to you as a developer edition isn't one, or the boot loader has been modified.

You are right, it's indeed HTC_39.

The device was sent to me as brand new and sealed, it also has a capacity of 64GB but you know what, I went through the settings now and the developer options I had before just disappeared!
Is it the same device as the standard HTC ONE only with 64GB? I'm very confused, Which device exactly I received?

Thank you!

You're most welcome :)

You have a completely unbranded 64GB HTC One, that is exactly the same as the developer edition except that it hasn't been "tuned" for AT&T in the U.S.
You should still have developer options, they disappeared with the update. Open the settings>about>software information>more. The build number line is there. Tap it 7 times (seriously).

You can still unlock the boot loader, and flash any custom software you'd like to, you just have to follow slightly different instructions and HTC never "officially" released the utility to restore the software to the factory state. The good news is that plenty of other folks have leaked it out, and you'll be able to find an RUU (that's what they are called) for your CID if you ever need one.

One big bonus is what you've already seen ? you get updated to 4.2.2 while the "official" developer edition did not.

YAY! I did what you said and the developer options returned to the settings menu.
I'm still a little confused and I would appreciate to get some clarification, the device I own is considered as the same htc original dev edition or it has been modified to something else? What is the difference between the two versions if both have the developer options, What am I missing here?

Thank you!

Where did you buy your phone?

I'm not an expert on this but based on HTC's website, it looks like the main difference is that the developer edition comes with the bootloader unlocked; whereas now, you will have to unlock it yourself, which really is not that bad.

I used CID Getter and my CID is blank like in Jerry's picture. I bought my unlocked One directly from HTC.

Does this mean that I have a developer edition One?
