It depends on what you want to do with your phone. People root to enable any number of things, you need to determine what your needs are. Without at least having an idea what you want to do, rooting is largly pointless.
As for what can be done, the list is just too broad. Start reading through the posts here and see if what people talk about is something you want to try.
There are Stickys in this very forum you need to read - they will show you the way. In there you will find Dirrk's one click method - it doesn't get easier than that.
It's not rooting that can make your phone a mess, it's what you do AFTER you root!
But like I said in my previous reply, it all depends on what someone wants to do with their phone. If you're not going to be trying different ROMs, debloating or running a free tethering app or the like, there's really no point rooting. Rooting is a means to an end, you have to know the end you want to achieve.
And you probably will mess up your phone at some point, as most of us have, but we can always walk you through the steps to get it back running.
Right. Rooting itself doesn't actually change anything with the phone. It just gives you the ability to. Its like getting administrative rights on a computer. z4root, an app on the market, Just requires you to hit a button that says "root" then you just wait for it to do all the work. I dont see how it could get easier than that.
yeah I think I would root to debloat, speed up sytem (lots of lag from when you actually hit some icons and the program comes up) and help with battery life. I actually like the TW interface so don't think i would change that.
Now you should first remove bing (you can leave it if you like).
Then, you can try debloating the fascinate.
OR
You could try to get a custom ROM running on the phone, but before that, you should do a lot of research in both the android central forums and xda forums.
The most common things people do with a rooted phone is probably using apps that require root access (such as wireless tether, titanium backup, etc.) and installing custom ROM's to make their phone "better."
But BEFORE you do anything, you really NEED to read up on how to do whatever you are trying to do. Finding out about what you are about to do is the best way to prevent and avoid problems with your phone. If you do have problems, however, I would also recommend that you don't try anything rash before asking people about it.
A good resource for almost anything is the #samsung-fascinate irc channel.
The VERY first thing you should do is flash clockwork and create a backup image of your phone with it. This way as you play with removing and installing apps, if you do something harmful, you have a simple way to correct it. Just follow the CWM sticky in these forums.
