This afternoon I was trying to get the new version of gmail to work. I was following steps I found on XDA and couldn't get it to run. I finally saw that I needed to change r.build.type=user to r.build.type=userdebug, reboot and it would work. I made the change in rom manager, rebooted and got caught in a loop. It'll sit on the AT&T screen for a couple minutes, load the homescreen and show an error message that says "the process com.android.systemui has stopped". If I hit ok, it reboots. If I let it sit, it reboots.

I've tried going into download mode and it will only sit saying that it's update firmware. I let it sit like that for about 30 minutes and it sat at 0% the entire time.

I have no idea what to do at this point and this is my daily phone...please help!!

Is there a way to modify the ROM with out going into it? Or do you have a custom recovery?

The only thing I could recommend is going into Recovery and doing a Factory Reset. Easiest and fastest way.
While the phone is off, hold the Power and Down Volume Buttons ,until the LG Screen shows up. Release those two buttons, and then press and hold them again quickly. A screen will come up asking to confirm a Factory Reset. Press the power button on the back of the phone 3 times to confirm all 3 prompts (they really wanna make sure you're sure you know what you're doing). The phone will clear itself and then reboot.

When you get to that first "Factory Reset" screen, see if your phone will connect via ADB and try and pull your files as a backup.
