I simply can not get good battery life with this phone!

HTC one were under pressure to bring out their product as fast as possible to the market so maybe they have sacrificed bit of quality control on the thing. Personally, after updating to 4.2.2 I'm finally seeing good battery life. I will test out my wife's HTC one at a later stage to compare.
The phone is quality but the charger which came with it feels very cheap and it is a defective one so I'm returning the charger. Maybe HTC took a shortcut on the battery also as different people are getting different results from their batteries. Or is a case of people having different expectations to what they were used to as many seem to have jumped from other platforms for the first time to HTC one including myself and my wife. After the update of my unlocked phone to 4.2.2, it is on par with other touch screen high end phones I would say so no complaints from my side at all.

I think HTCs quality control practices are to be blamed here. I have an HTC One and the battery life is excellent. I have noticed these variations in performance on different devices and HTC must consider it seriously if they value long term growth and a loyal customer base. Certain HTC One's have call reception issues, some have build quality issues, others have battery issues etc (my HTC One has a significantly obtrusive purple haze when used in extreme low light conditions). So its a mixed bag. This is not a good way to move forward.

I've also seen this on the One X. I bought one the day it came out from AT&T and it had phenomenal battery life, I would consistently get over 5 hours screen on time and would last the entire day on heavy usage. It was great. I ended up exchanging it for a black one in store since I liked that color more and guess what, it had WAY worse battery life than my original One X. How could that be true? It would only get 2-3 hours screen on time under the exact same usage patterns. And when I did research online I saw the same thing, some people had great battery life, other people had terrible battery life

I really think the same thing is happening with the One. I see people who get 30+ hours of usage and 5+ hours screen on time on the stock Rom and I just don't get it. Even if I kept the phone on the lowest brightness and only did very light tasks I wouldnt get anywhere near that. When I was stock I'd get 3 hours and maybe 15 hours overall.

I would just exchange it for a new one, but I bought this One through LetsTalk when it first came out so I'm beyond the warranty period. I don't understand how there's so much variation in this aspect among HTC's phones.

How does ViperOne compare to insertcoin?

A lot of people here seem to think I'm an iPhone user. I'm not, I just happen to have one. I typically buy 3-4 android phones a year (really trying to cut down on that haha). I want to last the long haul with the One, at least until the One Max comes out if that ends up having impressive battery life.

I'm also quite jealous of the Butterfly S, I know that thing will have great battery performance.

I have never used InsertCoin so I have no idea. ViperOne (until the last update) had a lot of bugs for me, including pictures not showing up in the gallery, video recording not working and some other things but ALL of them have been fixed in 1.2.1 and the performance is amazing. It also has loads and loads of tweaks, and an application called "Venom Hub" for even more tweaks, mostly visual. It's definitely a ROM that I will be keeping for a long time.

I have used ARHD, TrickDroid, RGUI, CynanogenMod, Google Edition ROM and stock ROMs but I will be sticking to Viper for a long time.

I used to change several devices a year as well but ever since the HTC One I have not even thought about any other smartphones because I do not see anything better in the market. I am waiting for the iPhone 6 (not 5S) to come out and then I'll see if I want to jumpship again to iOS, nevertheless any device I'll even think about in the mean time is going to be a HTC device with amazing specifications that top the One, which would be hard to find.

Wakelock detector has done the trick for me. Although I had all eBay notifications turned off, I found out over 5 hours it woke the phone 329 times on wake triggers. I force closed the app but not sure if that is bad? New to android so no idea but battery life is miles better. I used to get back from work with about 20% but it's now at 50% so seems to have worked.

Can someone tell me what wake trigger is and if force closing apps is bad? I also have a problem with Facebook. I change notifications to never update then log out. When I log back in it's changed back to check every hour?

I think you may see iPhone users complaining about battery life because its really one of the only major downsides to android devices. Just about all of the rest of the android OS is superior to iOS, so it's just this one issue that stands out.

Also, you're right, the iPhone 5 has battery performance far below all previous iPhones.

I could agree with that. It's just funny how it's almost a guarantee that those words will be spoken. And that's fine, it's just an observation i've made.

I cant speak about EBay, but the Facebook app still somehow does stuff in the background even if you disable all syncing and background updating. Unless you use an app like Greenify to hibernate the app when you aren't using it, I'm afraid you'll have to live with Facebook doing it's thing.

I agree. I just (two days ago) moved to the One from a 4S, and I'm surprised with how quickly I'm losing battery. I lose like 5% battery every hour on my One even when I'm not using it as much as I used my 4S (and the 4S was already 2 years old).
Wakelock detector shows Google Maps waking up the CPU 4196 times for a total of 16m58s. I'm guessing this is partly responsible for my battery drain, and I think it's mainly because Google now keeps showing me the 'Time to Home/Work'. I just turned off the Traffic setting on Google Now, so I'll have to see if that improves anything.

Thanks for the info. Can live with Facebook doing it's thing. It triggers the wake about 70 times but eBay was over 300 times. Does the force stop cause problems with the app or is that ok?

I log out of Facebook when done.. And that prevents it from doing anything.

I came from the 4s too. Loving the one just the battery drain which was an issue. Killed the eBay app and it has improved.

If your not using maps and Google now I would try turning it all off in settings. You can just turn it on when needed.

I suppose having such a good screen on the one means it will eat battery. Don't mind that, just dont want apps running in the background that I am not using also eating battery

I log out too but it still changes the settings back to check every hour. It woke my phone 70 times in 8 hours

Yup. Same here. I don't mind the battery drain when it's being used, but battery drain when the phone's supposed to be idle is what worries me.

Since I updated my unlocked HTC one to 4.2.2 the drain doesn't occur. I can go over night with only 1% going down.
Try Lso to turn off automatic Google apps update.

Odd. Mine doesn't do anything.

Initially I was getting pretty crap battery life but I made some changes and now its a beast. I put power saver on but removed the option that turns data off. I changed my work push email to smart sync because I figured I don't need instant email on my phone. I know you might, but I don't.

The day after I did this I got HUGE improvements on battery life. I can get from 6:00am to 11:00pm with probably 30% left on the battery and that is mixed usage. During the day when I'm working it gets glanced at occasionally and then put away again. On my dinner break it gets 30 minutes of solid use including Youtube videos, twitter etc. Then light usage until I get home at about 5pm. Then my 4 year old boy hammers the phone playing games for at least 30 minutes, sometimes an hour. Then I am on it all night. Watching videos, tweeting, instagram, texts, gaming, taking photos and so on. Heavy usage until I go to bed or a the PS3 distracts me.

I'm really happy with the battery life now. Love it.

I'm running ViperXl rom with ElementalX and i get about 2 days of battery life with minimal use. Standby did go down before I installed ElementalX but now that its installed and stable it actually does well. What is your CPU Governor set at? Mine is set at intellidemand which does very well for battery time, I tried powersave mode but that only slowed down the CPU.

I've been a 32GB unlocked HTC One owner since day one. Battery life for me has been very mediocre, barely enough to make it through a work day with light to moderate usage. For some reason this phone drains so much on standby it's ridiculous. Last week I finally gave in and decided to root. I've found that standby still sucks but the screen uses less power so I can get more screen on time on average. I'm running InsertCoin with ElementalX kernel and for every hour of standby I lose ~3+ percent of battery! I'm not even using the phone! I have EVERY APP on my phone Greenified, Google Search, Gmail, and Play Music uninstalled, I have the phone undervolted and monitor everything with Wakelock Detector and GSAM. Nothing looks weird to me but for some reason my standby still sucks. I've literally crippled my phone and have all location services turned off and I still can't get good standby time. My iPhone 5 could last forever on standby, literally 3-5 hours without losing a single percent. I've been using Android for years and the only phone that got GOOD battery life was the Note 2. At this point I'm considering going back to it because I'm sick of micromanaging my phone and still not getting good results.

Is anyone else having similar issues?

I think there could be something wrong with your phone. this is because I can get like 18 hours our of my phone is the moderate to heavy use.
