.. it is amazing how a company like Google can make this mistake. Apple test theirs for years on years. I have reordered mine again nexus 7 16gb.... Strangely I used it fo 12 days then it got bad. I got a bad feeling that if I get another one it migh happen maybe like 1-3 mths later... then I am really stuck with a product that is 1/2 made. I think it would have been an iPad 2/3 killer if they were more thorough in their testing and making sure... they wanted to get it out of the door and as a result I found 1000+s of people all over the net [world] having display issues. This sort of things will make google not succeed in their attempts to overtake Apple. I think Asus did a very poor job,,, Maybe Samsung can come out with something better..... problem is the display issue do not show up immediately but like 2weeks later..and it pisses me as all my docs and everything customized is in there...

Well at least Google can use Grammer...

And um, didn't one of the iPhones have a bad batch? Seriously, a bad launch isn't anything new. Don't act too surprised, because it happens all the time, even to the big companies. Yes, you spent the money on the device. If it's defective get another and if that still doesn't work get your money back if you'd like. But just because of a bad launch doesn't mean it's a bad device. It frustrates me how the N7 has gotten a bad name here on AC because of a few defective devices.

tested for years on years...?

I'm not sure I'd want a Nexus 7 years and years from now, no matter how good it was.

BALONEY!! Apple has plenty of problems with their products. "years and years"?? LOL!

the display is not going to be "world class" for the price of the N7. But it's adequate.

three whole posts, eh?

I firmly believe all products should be tested for at least 7 years before releasing.

I'm now eagerly anticipating the release of my new cell phone made in 1999.
It's old, but it's stable!

Guys gotta remember. Aside from Tegra, this is a promotional tablet built out of spare parts. Its a jab towards other manufacturers and vendors to prove that you can build a great tablet with the latest OS for cheap. A ploy designed to get Android into more people's hands.
Getting the Nexus name speaks volumes on the possibilities and potential from a hardware POV.

And usually for a first generation, on any item, having some issues with it, will be expected.

Fortunately, I didn't have any of the issues people are experiencing but IMO, this is a great start for Google. For every generation after it can only improve.

I have no issues either.

Did OP forget that when the iPhone 4 came out it was plagued and still is with antenna issues? Can't even hold it a certain way unless you have a case on it.

Every device has flaws and not everything is perfect. IMO the Nexus7 is a great device and gives me no issues. I love it.

It's a 7 inch quad-core tablet for $200. They chose ASUS to meet a price, and met the price. The first batch WILL have bugs. Welcome to early adoption of budget commodity hardware, folks. You rolls the dice, and you takes your chances. Every first-generation of anything has problems, and even Apple, good as they are at QA, has engineering flubs.

Anyone remember "You're holding it wrong."? How do we make this shinier? Hey, let's let our antennae be subject to galvanic response! Brilliant! And then when people complain about our design flaw, we'll accuse THEM of misusing it instead of immediately shipping out corrective cases.

The important thing is that they are easily swapped out since there's almost no local data, and Google is swapping them out without complaint. There will be some big losses in Google-land on this, but it's probably worth the cost to them to penetrate the tablet space on this kind of scale.

With stuff like this, I'd rather know that the company will do the right thing. Google has shown every sign of doing the right thing - they are willingly swapping out units and making customers happy, and not accusing the customer of holding it wrong. That speaks volumes as to the long-term relationship I want with Google.

Google don't make the tablet, Asus do.

Yup. And I can tell you from direct experience that getting QC under control can be a real trick. Although since Asus *is* building this thing, and they aren't exactly new at building tabs, they should not have gotten the high percentage of screwed up displays they did. I suspect Asus didn't use their normal channels to assemble, or since the price is very close to the bone they cut one too many corners.

Um..we have zero evidence that there is a high percentage of bad units. You can't go by posts in a forum as they represent a microscopic percentage of buyers. Plus even within them a fair percentage of the "faulty" posts turn out to be trolling - more than one such has been discovered at this forum alone.

This is the problem with using an internet forum to determine if a product is quality or not - the tendency is for those with issues to post while those without issues tend not to post. Hence problems get magnified beyond their true proportion.

If you or anyone else thinks that there isn't a significant number of faulty units, an amount that should not be considered "normal and customary", then you're just being an apologist. I'm well aware that forums can tend to exacerbate the issues a device has (I'm looking at you, all that pulled the iPhone out of your ass here) but this device clearly has some quality problems. I'm thrilled for those that have a perfect unit but I suspect that there are plenty of less discerning users out there that just don't realize that the screen is lifting ever so slightly. This not a 1%-5% affected issue and thinking its that, well that's just silly given the sheer volume of reports.

I agree.

You will get much more vocal people complaining then you will people praising.

I don't think this is a huge issue. Some faulty units here and there are normal. If this was huge it would be in the news and mentioned everywhere. Kind of like the antenna issue was with the iPhone.

This is a forum based on the product. Of course you will hear complaints.

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

Yeah, I have to agree with the idea that the QC on this unit is not that good. But I suspect as production continues the fallout rate will drop. It's hell being an early adopter :)

You have data to back this up? I personally have not read any reports that show the number of faulty units are higher than what is normal cost of business for manufacturing goods.

Exactly, people with tablets with manufacturing defects will be vocal about it where people with tablets that don't have manufacturing defects will most likely not say anything. Also, depending on how picky a person is, a product may be perfectly fine to them or it may be unacceptable. If the tablet functions fine, the display looks fine and it doesn't seem like it is going to fall apart I am happy with it.
