I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much testing

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

Ipad 2/3 killer?

I never purchased this tablet because I thought it would be any type of tablet killer. I like the Android eco system and I don't want a tablet with the form of the Ipad or and android tablet like the zoom or whatever because I don't want to drag that size of thing all over the place. I was never interested in a tab until the Nexus 7 because it has the right size coupled with excellent performance and customization I want not to mention direct system upgrade support from Google.

I've read reviews comparing the Nexus 7 to Ipads but I think these are off track because they are comparing devices with different target markets.

My Nexus 7 is the perfect form factor for me, and as delivered is free of screen or hardware imperfections, and the plus is that it provides excellent performance, and the ability to store my extra data in the cloud servers provided by Google or other cloud server providers.

Build quality: There are always going to be some devices that miss the mark. There is always going to be some software program that misses the mark. This has been the history of all hardware and computing devices since their inception.

Ever buy a new house or condo and have everything working to your perfect desire--Not happening and it is not going to happen with a phone, computer or tablet device. There are always going to be some percentage of units with issues. Hopefully the issues will be solvable.

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

I always thought that Nexus devices are to show developers and manufacturers what they can and should do with Android. Then companies like Samsung, HTC, and Motorola will make their own tablets that are similar to the Nexus 7.

On the other hand Google does seem to be making Nexus devices more accessible to consumers by offering Nexus phones on multiple carriers, and offering Nexus tablets at many retailers.

Google obviously rushed out the first batch of Nexus tablets and that could be the reason for all of the issues. In a couple of months I expect most of these issues will be fixed.

Pretty much ALL the mfgrs "rush out" their products in this space. Am I right, or am I wrong??

So based upon your rational, they should have given up, even if you yourself have doubted the validity of a quality control issue? Sounds a bit contradictory to me.

Actually I am doing a poor job at pointing out the fact that we are beating a dead horse.

I have not read reports of out-of-the-norm (read: that doesn't mean it doesn't exist) quality control issues and no one here seems to want to provide anything more than their anecdotal data (while also claiming it as gospel truth).

The contradiction serves as the irony of the thread, because if you are convinced there is an inherent problem in design then why own one and continue to complain about it?

I'm can't speak for everyone, but in my case it comes down to the difference between function and design. I love the way the device functions, but I'm frustrated by the design issues I've been seeing in my own personal experience. To put it simply, I love the tablet, I'm just mad I can't seem to get one that doesn't have problems. I'm glad people are getting perfect units because I'd love to see the N7 succeed.

Frankly, I don't think we need to talk statistics, function, grammar, or design. We just need a maker that knows how to properly use glue.

Got to have some faith in Google and Asus. I believe the Nexus 7 16GB costs around $200 to make, and even if they sold a million units, and had to exchange every single one, that's "only" 200 million bucks, chump change to Google. Cheap money for Google to use to scare all of their OEM's into finally making great devices, pricing them right, and sticking with vanilla versions of Android instead of having to skin every single one with some custom , and usually interfering, skins of their own. Then users have to wait inordinately long to receive Google's latest Android updates, or never received them. Android can't take the market away from Apple with that kind of fragmentation of the OS, and they know it.

You should apply for the position of `glue expert :p

I don't think it is an issue with how they use glue. If you read the reports, you'll note that the separation issue is pretty much exclusively on the left side of the screen, couple this with the reports by people who have attempted to fix it that the screen drops back below the bezel when the back of the tablet is taken off, this indicates that the tolerances are probably a bit off with some of the backs leading to the screen being pushed up, and the backs are probably put on before the glue has fully bonded.

Lens Pirate, which store did you find a large supply of 8GB N7s in stock. I have yet to see any store with the 8GB model. If you're here just to make fun of other posters move on. The problems with the N7s are real and widespread. The number of buyers on this forum is just a small percentage of N7 buyers and we are seeing, not just, poor quality tablets, we are seeing the same issues over and over again when we have them replaced. The odds that the number of poor quality N7s spoken about here is not representative of the tablet supply in general are extremely slim.

This is what I keep thinking. What is inside on the left side? Is it something that can maybe be filled or sanded down or do the same to the inside of the back cover to give it enough clearance?

What a knucklehead...

My Google stock is through the roof and you cant find a Google7 tablet anywhere and the next few orders will be sold out also.

Do some have issues with screens, touch pad, sound sure but others have no issues.

Why do we take some issues and blow it in to "most"

Mistake? Sounds like you bought one!!

Early adopters always go though growing pains on a new product and what dork always compares an Android to an Apple product?

Enjoy what you have or dont buy..

Oh and Googles mistake is the is the reason Apple is rushing there 7" to come out in a few months and my guess will still not have GPS turn by turn, and will still use SIRI, and wont support flash!

And cant wait to see the price point for the Apple 7"!!

.. it is amazing how a company like Google can make this mistake. Apple test theirs for years on years. I have reordered mine again nexus 7 16gb.... Strangely I used it fo 12 days then it got bad. I got a bad feeling that if I get another one it migh happen maybe like 1-3 mths later... then I am really stuck with a product that is 1/2 made. I think it would have been an iPad 2/3 killer if they were more thorough in their testing and making sure... they wanted to get it out of the door and as a result I found 1000+s of people all over the net [world] having display issues. This sort of things will make google not succeed in their attempts to overtake Apple. I think Asus did a very poor job,,, Maybe Samsung can come out with something better..... problem is the display issue do not show up immediately but like 2weeks later..and it pisses me as all my docs and everything customized is in there...

Most peope who join forums like this are the tiny ocd minority who have cimplaints. Huge numbers if others have no oroblems with their product and dont care to obssess on forums. You should see the rampant oct on the mac and ipad forums but fun reading.

I really don't understand why I read more than a few folks on this forum still demanding flash.

It's nearly an obsolete platform. Time to move on or go on craigslist and find a machine still running windows 3.11 :)

Yep, and if you want the glue to do what it's supposed to, you need to let it cure long enough. Therefore, Asus is clueless on how to successfully implement glue. It's kinda sad, really.

Though from what you're saying, in addition to not being glue-competent, they seem to lack additional design and assembly skills.

Don't get me wrong, I want a Nexus 7 (hopefully third one's the charm). I want Asus to get it right. I'm just extremely unimpressed with their build quality at this point.

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

I bet that just one factory received a bad batch of glue and made 1000's with it and through distributors they were mixed with other lots avoiding detection with QC.
