I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much testing

tested years on years? Stopped reading there.....fail....

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

From what I've seen on this forum and others, I am pretty convinced that there are some very common and minor (like what I'm experiencing - very slight issue with about an inch of the left side being glued in properly) and less-common and more major (screen washing out after some use, touch response issues) issues with the Nexus 7. I've followed the launch of several products on various forums and the complaints seem higher on the N7.

Having said that, it's pretty obvious that these are manufacturing defects, and not design defects. When you build a commodity device on razor-thin margins, you will run in to manufacturing defects. This is the nature of the beast, and we aren't talking a $600 iPod here - we're talking a $200 tablet.

The important thing is that Google/ASUS have set up a good return/replacement system and most of their retail vendors also have reasonable return and replacement policies. They are making it right for people, and that's what counts. They'll get the manufacturing issues straightened around, and in the meantime they are getting dirt cheap fondleslabs in everyone's hands quickly. This is the whole point of the N7 - the general consumer now finally has access to a portable, useable, well-designed, fast, and very inexpensive tablet. Apple made Picard's PADD available to many. Google will make it available to pretty much everyone.

There is no evidence of any engineering flaws that cannot be fixed by replacing the device with a properly-assembled unit. That's good news, because Google/ASUS can simply fix the problem by clearing up their assembly issues and keeping a steady supply of units flowing.

Basically, issues reported on this site are not statistically relevant given the quantity of product released.

Forums always blow issues out of proportion. It happens with cars, electronics and any other product really. No one ever praises an item, they always are vocal mostly when it is defective. Does that mean they are 100% perfect, the Nexus? Of course not but I would not let a couple issues you read on the net in a forum deter you. You need to take all the information you can, from th web, articles, hands-on at a store and such and come to an informed decision.

I just picked up a TF700. if I based my chocies on this forum, I would not have bought it but I am 100% happy with it, as are a ton of people.

Say what you will about things getting blown out of proportion, but I just received my third unit out of three with a defect. This one has the lifting glass, light bleed in the corner, and a couple dead pixels. I'm running out of patience for this product.

Some people will not allow themselves to see an issue, regardless of evidence presented. Of course no one has any figures to back up claims either way, but you're blind if you can't at least acknowledge that there is something off about the frequency of screen issues. Go to the SG3 forum, not perfect device by any means, but you will not find a single problem so common as the screen issues the N7 has. And that device has sold more already than the N7 will sell in its lifetime (don't even begin to debate that statement with me).

So based upon your rational, they should have given up, even if you yourself have doubted the validity of a quality control issue? Sounds a bit contradictory to me.

Exactly.

No one has been using statistics to present any relevance whatsoever. Merely referencing how many have spoken up about their faulty devices. Just the sheer volume of issues must at least suggest a shortfall in quality.

Its OK for those of you who are completely happy with your Nexus 7 to be open to the possibility of less than stellar quality control. It will not cause defects in your device nor bring on the end of the world.

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

I am about to send back my second nexus 7 and get it replaced with a third one. There is alot of you here who got good tablets, however, asus ed up and there is a good chunk of tablets with bad displays that got shipped. Google is handling it well and replacing units quickly and without question. Needless to say if my third nexus 7 is defective then I won't be ordering a fourth.

According to his earlier post on another thread, he walked right into Staples and got a perfect one on his first try, so I basically just chalk it up to his experience being on the opposite end of the spectrum from mine. I also don't believe my experience of getting 3 problematic devices in a row is average by any means, it's simply just bad luck. I do know one thing, I know he was trying to be clever, but I certainly don't feel ashamed for expecting a product that is free of defects.

The problems with the nexus 7 don't surprise me in the least considering how shoddy Asus build quality was with the Transformer Prime. Just returned 2 myself and ended up with an ipad since I needed something working for a trip.

I have not yet decided if I will exchange my 7 or just get a refund (messed up right side input). But regardless I blame Asus not Google. As someone who works for a company in Supply Chain organization I will bet you that Google did what they could. The quality is ultimately up to Asus to keep at a high level.

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

I guess I'm one of the fortune ones, I got my nexus 7 a few days ago and it has absolutely zero defects.

Manufacturing versus Design defects are very different.

Manufacturing defects tend to be spotty issues that could be linked to a certain run of products produced (2000 devices made on a certain day for example).

Design defects impact ALL products - like the antenna issue Apple had or the Wii remote issue.

Design issues should be caught in testing, depending on how robust and extensive your test plan is. It is always a balance between marketing and quality assurance.

What we are seeing are manufacturing problems. Since a number of people report problem free devices.

As others have pointed out, we have no idea on the numbers involved here... And typically, people are more apt to complain than praise.

Re: I thihk Google jump the gun and no proper QA or even much tes

I pre-ordered my Nexus7 and while I waited for it to arrive I bought out local stock and sold them pre-tested through Ebay and Craig's List. I was able to sell 15 units all 16gb models and not one had any problems in the 2-3 days of testing I did. That just means I was lucky enough for my area not to get a bad shipment.

I went to a local store that had the 8 gigs units in large supply. I ask for one and looked at it before buying expecting to have to sort through dozens and spend "years on years" looking for a good one. Much to my amazement the first one was a winner. LOL
