I think the Moto X 2014 has inadequate storage

Re: Not enough storage on Moto X 2014

Why do you have to store it on your phone in perpetuity, though? Just back it up to Google Drive, Google+, YouTube, or the drive on your computer for free. That way, should something happen to your phone, you still have the files. Are you really watching each video so often that they need to be available for instant playback at a moment's notice?

That's just the way I look at it.

Pure laziness in not wanting to hook up to the pc is really the reason I want as much capacity as possible on the phone.

You don't ever have to hook the phone up to a PC. You can set Google+, as well as a number of other services, to automatically upload your pics and videos. For instance, I have my phone set up so that when I'm on WiFi and charging up my phone's battery, the Google+ and Box apps will automatically back up my pics/videos. That way, I don't have to ever think about it, nor do I have to worry about the back up process using up my battery or cell data when I'm out and about.

Re: Not enough storage on Moto X 2014

I would say the people who are actually the advanced/power users will be happy with less user-available storage. If you aren't taking advantage of cloud storage, if you don't have a usb-otg cable, if you don't have a big enough data plan to make it through a few days without wifi, guess what? You're a hobbyist at best.

I would guess the so-called power users are also power users of other available tech, and are making profitable use of something the smartphone does well.

But you still have to manually delete stuff from your phone all the time after it's backed up to the cloud. PITA. I just want enough storage to not even have to do that. Yep, laziness.

16GB is still good enough for me.

I have 8gb storage on my nexus 4 and still have over 50% space left. And that's with a decent amount of apps and a 1.6gb backup of my current rom. With cloud storage that is accessible any time, why have it on the device? To say 32gb is too low is ridiculous.

Lazy people don't have the right to complain. If you can't take a minute or two to hook up your phone to a pc, or delete some files, maybe you shouldn't have a phone in the first place.

Re: Not enough storage on Moto X 2014

No offense but your opinion is wrong. There is no need to make 32 the minimum. Many people don't want or need that. My Ultra came with 16GB and I have about 7GB free right now. Why should I lose the option I want just because you don't get it? I understand that for some people, their situation requires more storage, but why is it so hard for people who want more storage to fathom that some people don't? Is it really that difficult of a concept that different people have different needs?

Well ok, I hear you and respect that but an opinion can't actually be wrong. Anyway I see your opinion is different than mine so let me put this discussion a little differently.

What if the minimum storage on all new phones was only 8 gbs? Considering you have 9gbs of data you need/want to keep on your phone, wouldn't you want the minimum raised to 16?

It seems to me you're actually in the same boat as those of us who want more onboard storage are, just at a different level.

Ok, well then by your logic why would you buy a phone with so much storage if you only need 4gb?

To say 32gb is too high could also be seen as ridiculous.

But really, why limit ourselves to a couple choices? Smart phone manufacturers have already set a storage precedent showing that up to 128gb and possibly more could be offered. All I'm asking is that those options be offered for all phones. Start at 8gbs and go up to whatever will physically fit in the device.

Seems to me that would be best for everyone and this debate/discussion/argument would be irrelevant.

I may not have moto x but i have a 16GB moto g, the way i managed my storage is only by putting the musics that i hear the most and for videos i delete them if I'm bored with it but can still om put them back from my PC.

I have an 8GB Moto G as a backup. I use it as a Wi-Fi Android device. The apps I use on it mostly mirror what I use on my Moto X.

..I could get by on 8GB just fine right now.

If 16GB was available, then that's what I would get. However, I wouldn't insist that 16GB had to be the minimum because that's what I need. I am able to acknowledge that others' needs may be different.

The difference here between what you are saying and what I and others are saying is that we understand that our needs do not and should not dictate what should be available for others.

An opinion can be wrong, but that discussion would be off topic so lets not go there.

No, I'm not in the same boat as you. I don't want the minimum at 16...I never said I do. I would never buy a phone with less than 16GB of storage because I know that wouldn't fit my need. I also know there are people who buy phones with 8GB of storage and it meets their needs just fine. The difference between you and I seems to be that you are calling for a minimum storage amount based on your needs, while I can understand that different people have different needs and I'm not calling for a minimum storage amount period. If there was a phone that came with 8GB of storage, and I really liked the phone, I would look for that phone in a 16GB version and buy it. If there was no 16GB version I would skip it. I wouldn't carry on talking about how 16GB should be the minimum just because its what I need. That would just be silly.

Isn't the point that phones should be able to satisfy a wide range of tastes and needs? If you only need 16GB because you are careful and meticulous about managing your storage, then go for it. I want a 64GB phone so I can just have everything with me, like on a flight. I spend at least 10 hours a week on a plane, so not having my entire catalog of music is not an option.

Fair enough.

Re: Not enough storage on Moto X 2014

Google has been conducting device surveys continuously for years and when they detect a large majority start to use more device storage then things might change. I use nearly none of the storage on my phone. I find it more fitting to use my tablet or a real camera for anything my phone can do except communicate. Which doesn't require much on board storage.

Just out of curiosity, why would anyone buy one of these if they only come in 16 and 32gb versions?

Even acknowledging the apparent fact that they are pretty good phones, what's your justification for purchasing a phone with what a lot would say is inadequate storage?

I'm impressed with what I see and read about these, but I can't fathom buying a new phone with the same or less storage than my current phone has. Oh and Cloud storage doesn't make up for low onboard.

Just interested in hearing peoples thoughts on this.

The same way people buy IPhones with internal storage only. I use dropbox for all my stoprage, So 32GB is MORE than enough.

I lived with 16gb g2 with no big problems. Even with Real Racing 3 installed, 1gb music and typical apps. But every few days i had to hook up to PC and empty big videos and pics from g2. I used otg stick for watching movies and shows and always had 2, 3 gb free just in case. So 16gb is bit tight but not that big of a problem.

People who want 16GB can buy 16GB.

People who want 32GB can buy 32GB.

People who want 64GB should be able to buy 64GB.

Etc. That simple.
