I think yesterday was one of the sadest days in my life..

Yes they make you return the phone.

How so? The lady over the phone didnt say anything about me returning the phone. I just told her I dropped it and broke the screen. She said we will send you a replacement but didnt say anything about returning the phone. And if I remember, Asurian never told me I had to return the other phone on other insurance claims?

Crap lol. If this is right, Ill have to end my Ebay auction :(

Edit: Ended the auction listing. Just realized the other insurance claim I made before was for a lost phone.

Similar story over here. I just bought my 1st android phone - Droid Charge - last month. I have a basic case on it for protection (a colored rubberized plastic one). The other day as I was pulling it out of my pocket, it falls no more that 2 1/2 feet onto my tile floor. Not a scratch on the screen but it shattered from the inside. I nearly broke down crying. The screen was blank but the phone kept on working cause I kept hearing text notifications. I did not have insurance. I went back to costco where I bought it and I got a too bad from the rep. He realized that I owned the phone for less than a month so he was able to add insurance to my account. That night, I decided to call Samsung directly and see if I had any other options rather than receiving a refurb from assurion for $100. Samsung said they can replace the screen for $96 including round trip shipping. I get my phone back - not a refurb - for the same price. If that is the case and Samsung can fix my phone directly why do I still need to carry insurance?

I don't think it is wise of you to sell your defective phone on ebay. YOU have to RETURN that device to your insurance co. If you don't, you will be charged full retail for the defective phone. Do the math....paying the deductible for the replacement........or both the deductible and the retail value of the phone you didn't return.
You can't sell a defective phone you are switching out.............

Awesome to know that Samsung can fix it! And for cheaper than the insurance deductible. Sounds too good to be true, but I'll take your word for it! :D

Hate to be a buzz kill and go way off topic, but the title of this post just hits home too much. Friday was one of the saddest days of my life. I attended the visitation of a friends 2.5 month old son who recently passed away. :( That kind of day puts life (and phones) in perspective.

That's so tragic - I'm very sorry to hear it. My condolences to the child's family.

USAA will not cover smartphones nor tablets under the optional computer insurance. They will however cover it under the normal policy but then you have to pay the deductible too lol. Also, the rep I spoke with said if enough members wrote in asking for these items to be added, especially since they are basically computers, they might do just that. :)

This why i daily bug otterbox. I want my infuse otterbox now!!!! I work as a plumber and its always my fear.

If this is one of the saddest days in your life, you're doing pretty well. May it remains so....

sigh. 14 minutes ago at 12:45 am i dropped my infuse in the street coming out of my car. although theres no cracked screen, the corners are messed up. im sad.

You have to tell Assurion that you LOST the phone to not have to return it. It's the same price too, but yeah if you tell them its broken, etc they will make you return it or they will charge you a $200 non-return fee for the phone not making it back to them, I worked for Sprint who uses Assurion and we got that call from customers before asking what the $200 charge was for. Even if you say it broke in 20 pieces, you have to send it back. Safest thing is just to say you lost it, for next time ;)

Ouch! Was it in a case? I want to hear stories of people dropping phones in their cases and ending up without a scratch! These war stories are going to give me nightmares!!!

Sorry to hear that. Are you just gonna ride out the life of the phone with messed up corners? I'm not sure what I would do... :'(

So how does the Lost/Stolen claim work?

Do you just call them up and say you've lost your phone and that is that? or do you have to submit a police report or something?

Do you have to deactivate your lines? etc.

Do you have to buy another SIM card and pay for the new phone to get activated?

I have the insurance mostly for it getting Lost. And also is it max of 2 claims per phone on the account with insurance or 2 per account regardless of how many phones/lines?

I've never had to file a claim and am wondering how exactly it works for a lost phone.

Yes telling them It was broke was the wrong thing I did lol. I cant believe I forgot that. But I got the brand new one now. Good as new.......brand new!! woo lol
