Until I switched to Android.

I have been using an HTC One M8 now for just shy of 15 days, and since that time I have started using widgets, customizing my default apps, replacing my default apps and even strapping an Android Wear watch to my wrist and finding tremendous use out of it.

Having been an avid Apple 'fanboy' I suppose you could say, for the past 5 years, I have come to realize just how far behind they were or still are. You cannot change default Apps which is a huge, massive, insane and not enough words to describe feature that is on Android (and probably has been since Day One). They have only now just incorporated widgets, but only to their notification center (not even the status bar). Meanwhile, I go to unlock my 1080p display (another feature that took Apple a few years to catch up on) and I see an extremely useful calendar widget, and a google search bar (which thinking about it, I might remove because I don't use it that much and replace with something else). I have the weather showing on my status bar of all things and even my lock screen has a bit of personality to it.

Now I come onto the watch, huge buzz around this Apple Watch, and many people believe that this is the first of its kind - at least those who are misinformed, to which their are many. Meanwhile I sit here typing this post, already experiencing what its like to wear a smart watch that is attached to your phone with the Moto 360. I understand Pebble is around, however I am talking OS integrated smart watches.

So to sum up, I cannot believe how misinformed I was about Android, I always use to think that Apple was ahead and all these features that Android include are kitchen sink features that just drain your battery life. However, with all these widgets and constant things going on in the background, my Battery life is a lot better then any previous iPhone I have owned. Now I am not saying that Android is superior to Apple, or vice versa, but what I am trying to get as is Apple are so good at marketing features as their own, that people don't release that these features have been in phones for quite some time.

So my advice to EVERYONE who is thinking about jumping ship, to go into a shop and try the phones and understand that Android isn't the battery hungry, privacy invoking slow system hogs that they are made out to be. They are secure, insanely quick (certainly faster then iPhones I think) and have amazing battery life.

Don't be drawn into Apples Marketing, and to use your own head, took me 5 years to do the same but now that I have I don't think I could go back : /

I probably would've switched from the iPhone earlier if I understood what launchers were and that I didn't have to fully stick with Blinkfeed. The Google Now Launcher was the perfect thing to help me ease into Android.

Clearly we've hit a kind of wall where hardware features and looks aren't as awe-inspiring as say, my jump from the iPhone 3g to 4. I'm really boiling it down to software now. iOS is what I'd recommend to 95% of my friends and family but I now prefer Android. Don't know why I resisted so long because I'm still a Windows user with tons of customizations there.

Sometimes it was nice to have a phone that was more locked down and simplified, because I have to (and want to) tweak all the other electronics in my life, but I had a lot of issues with my iPhone 5 and made the jump.

In a somewhat silly way, the tweaking nature of Android is comfortable to me because it's good to see that there's a platform kids have to truly learn to get the most out of. I've been thinking a lot about how technology is going and how you can't even replace ram in a lot of computers now, let alone the other components. From both a hardware and software side, I wonder how all these closed systems will raise the engineers of tomorrow. My older cousin took his computer apart and added components to get better performance out of Minecraft. My younger cousin only plays games from the app store on an iPod Touch. That seems to be where we're headed and it's a weird cost of convenience that all manufacturers are guilty of now, not just Apple.

Tried Android for 2 years here, with my Nexus 4. Loved the phone, loved the OS but I'm going back to the iPhone.

I've never owned an iPhone but been around them enough and had to deal with them enough at work that I can say I am comfortable operating one. However, I've been an Android user since the original Moto Droid, and I have loved it. It's always been able to be customized and is so different on each device yet familiar enough to pick up without issue. The apps are in the app drawer/launcher, regardless of your Android version or what launcher you use or how you've customized it (I use Nova launcher myself and I love it) - and with 3rd party keyboards (I use SwiftKey but there are other good ones) and being able to customize your phone to make it yours is why I love Android. I would feel trapped on an iOS device. Even the stock Android isn't custom enough for me and I have rooted and put ViperONE ROM on my M8, which has unlocked more features. I understand my usage is not typical and my needs are not the same as others' needs. Some people don't want that much customization - and an iPhone will work fine for that (as long as it's not running iOS 8, which won't work at all :p ).

For some people Apple devices are fine. For me (and others) they are not. To each their own

I come from a full apple environment (work mainly) and switched to htc m8 for the phone. Honestly it's good but some things are still better on ios in my opinion. Some things are better on android. They both have pros and cons. That said htc is really well built compared to Samsung. I still don't get why I should pay 600+ euros for a plastic phone.

Apple actually does a lot really well. But there not for everyone. Some like to mod, tinker, and upgrade. Others just want the thing to work

My first smartphone was android and then iphone 4s (i hated it) then back to android and wp 8.1 then android again. I think android suit me well and the price is just perfect with so many fast hardware to choose
