I want to keep my Note 7 as a "collector" piece

So Verizon has refunded the two monthly installment payments I have made towards my Note 7 (now 2nd Edition) and I am again eligible for an upgrade. Supposedly they will send a box to return the Note 7 to Samsung if I upgrade. But since they already refunded the account for the Note 7, I wonder what they would do if I just decided to not return it? Do you think they would try and bill me the full cost of the phone if it doesn't get returned? Legally, I don't think they'd even be able to or want to. Seems like Verizon is washing their hands of the phone if they already refunded it before it even got returned. Before people call me the devil because I want to keep such a "dangerous" phone around, I should mention that I don't actually plan on continuing to use it and it will remain powered off. I suspect it will eventually be "bricked" at some point anyway for liability reasons. I just like to collect stuff and figured I would hang onto it for a novelty item. Who knows, maybe it will actually be a collector's item someday. I know I will be out the $51 sales tax money I spent, but I'd be willing to eat that if that's all I'm out...

Can it be "bricked" if not connected to a carrier? May be a dumb question, but I have seen other posts about wanting to keep it for a camera, PDA, etc. I was wondering the same thing.

Not sending it back and not paying for it, in my mind that equals theft. Is theft legal in your state?

Return the phone. It's illegal and stealing not to do so.
