Hi everyone,

I have a stock Thunderbolt, non-rooted, and ever since I requested the push update on the 3rd, my phone has been randomly rebooting several times a day, and also, my battery life has been much worse, as many of you have been seeing.

I just got off the phone with a second tier tech support person at Vzn, and supposedly, here is what is going on.

1 - if you manually requested the update, as I did, and didn't get the notification, that combined with another piece could be what caused the issue. The rep suspects that there is likely "a glitch" in the update.

2 - the rep stated the phone is supposed to do a factory reset after that update is pushed, wiping all the data (but it should resync the data with the combination of your Verizon Backup Assistant and Google's backups).

And here's where the issue is, if your phone did NOT do a factory reset, like mine did not, because I requested the update vs having it "pushed" by their systems to my particular phone, it will continue rebooting at various times until it is able to perform that final factory reset, which it needs to complete the software update install. The rep speculates this is the "glitch". Afterwards, I had to run through the HTC setup again, which the rep says is part of the process.

SO, the rep says the fix is to backup your phone, then perform a factory reset, so the update software on the phone will know this has occurred.

To me, this makes the most sense from everything I've seen so far.

Can other users confirm whether they 1 - saw a factory reset and not just a reboot (like I did), and 2 - manually requested the update, or whether it was pushed to them?

I'll post an update, but I bet this fixes it.

1. I manually requested and installed the update.

2. I have had the reboot issue, in addition to frequent loss of 3G connectivity, several times since then (twice this morning for the reboot).

3. I factory reset a total of three times yesterday. This has not fixed the problem.

4. Your rep is full of it.

Some forum folks have said that factory reset didn't stop the issue for them.

If your phone does a factory rest, it will wipe away all of your non-purchased apps and non-google data. There is no way to backup your Thunderbolt device to save the non-purchased and google apps/information.

I was having the random reboot issue after the update as well (never before). Finally bit the bullet, paid $5 for My Backup Pro and backed up everything. I did a Factory Reset yesterday. Used My Backup Pro and by Google Account to get everything back the way it was before the Factory Reset. So far after 1 day I have not had any random reboots. We'll see if this lasts. I feel Verizon is at a minimum responsibly for covering the $5 required to truly back everything up. That is the last they could do after this horrible update process.

On a side note, battery is still much worse that before the update.

I think they just need to focus on getting Gingerbread ready and push that out to us by the end of the month.

Requested the update as well. I get 4-8 random reboots a day. I completed 2 factory resets and it has done nothing to fix the issue. The reboots have come while on the phone, listening to music ect. This is getting old fast!

This isn't true at all. My phone restored everything automatically, purchased and free apps, except for my text messages, call logs, and icon placement on the home screens. My wifi settings, bluetooth settings, all of my apps, contacts, all come back and i've hard reset and swapped devices.

I do have to re-login to some services like Twitter and LiveProfile, and re-set up the Gingerbread keyboard, but the apps, settings, contacts, etc are all there.

I think they just don't know what the issue is yet. That's why they are working on it. I know my phone didn't do a factory reset and I haven't had any random anything (reboots or shutdowns) and my battery life is better.

I manually requested the update and I have had no issues whatsoever. I did let it finish doing it's thing during the upgrade and it was fine

Did the manuel update and now have 1 or 2 ramdon reboots per day, which I had none of prior to the update. Not sure if the device did a factory reset or not and I haven't done one either

I manually requested the update and have only had one reboot. No factory resets since the update and battery life is somewhat better.

First of all I didn't get an automatic push and my phone is working just fine. I have been telling people here with the reboot issue to do a master reset for weeks now why they wont do it is beyond me.

I just got off the phone with a 2nd tier tech myself. He, fortunately, is a Thunderbolt owner and is incredibly frustrated himself with the random reboots and dropped 3G connectivity. He would like me to convey that they have a high alert notice that has gone out to all reps on this, and that they just had a meeting regarding it. They are passing along all information to HTC and are attempting to put the pressure on HTC to put out a rapid fix. He says that, at this point, sending out replacement phones would not necessarily be the best option, since it is clearly a software issue, but agreed that this might be something they will have to do in the future. I suggested throwing in a free extended battery for everyone experiencing the problem, and then complained that the Droid Charge manages to cram in a 1750mah battery, so what the heck is HTC's problem?? He agreed with me, not that it really matters. Just thought that I would report....so if you are having this issue, please register it with Verizon.

Also, the Thunderbolt is not listed on the HTC website on their support page. I imagine it has an "original" name and became the Thunderbolt when it was sold by Verizon. What is this phone? The Desire?

The master reset doesn't do it. I've done it through the Android software and through the power/volume down method, and neither one ended the problem.

Only thing I would care about is losing Angry Bird settings. My lil one is addicted to it. And was NOT amused when I rooted the device and wiped it away.

Txt, other settings no big deal for me.

Master reset go to settings then go to SD and phone storage then go waay down to factory data reset press that. Thats a master reset what you are doing is a reboot, a reboot will fix nothing. After the factory data reset you will be asked to load on the update once again and you will have to re load all your apps and e mails etc.
