i was told this by a 2nd tier tech @ vzn regarding the reboots and worse battery.

I did a manual request for update and I have not seen any reboots since the OTA was available nor have I seen any worse performance in battery life. I just got my TB a week ago. Non-Rooted. I have ~200 app's installed. No Auto Task Killers....however I do have Juice Defender running. I have been monitoring with SystemPanel's monitoring functions all enabled. We deal with similar issues at my electronics firm, regarding FPGA's and clock edges...I'm guessing they don't have good enough constraints and some FPGA's have problems and other do not.....just depends on the luck of the draw.

Hi everyone,

I have a stock Thunderbolt, non-rooted, and ever since I requested the push update on the 3rd, my phone has been randomly rebooting several times a day, and also, my battery life has been much worse, as many of you have been seeing.

I just got off the phone with a second tier tech support person at Vzn, and supposedly, here is what is going on.

1 - if you manually requested the update, as I did, and didn't get the notification, that combined with another piece could be what caused the issue. The rep suspects that there is likely "a glitch" in the update.

2 - the rep stated the phone is supposed to do a factory reset after that update is pushed, wiping all the data (but it should resync the data with the combination of your Verizon Backup Assistant and Google's backups).

And here's where the issue is, if your phone did NOT do a factory reset, like mine did not, because I requested the update vs having it "pushed" by their systems to my particular phone, it will continue rebooting at various times until it is able to perform that final factory reset, which it needs to complete the software update install. The rep speculates this is the "glitch". Afterwards, I had to run through the HTC setup again, which the rep says is part of the process.

SO, the rep says the fix is to backup your phone, then perform a factory reset, so the update software on the phone will know this has occurred.

To me, this makes the most sense from everything I've seen so far.

Can other users confirm whether they 1 - saw a factory reset and not just a reboot (like I did), and 2 - manually requested the update, or whether it was pushed to them?

I'll post an update, but I bet this fixes it.

That's rubbish! (not you - but the tech) OTA's doing forced factory re-set's? Can you imagine the outrage that people that DON'T visit forums would have when everything they have set up is now gone?

I'm stock, I'm not rooted, I manually pulled the update the morning it was discovered, and my phone does not have random re-boots/re-starts. There has been no factory re-set on my phone. My battery life is improved since the update.

It is interesting that there are so many different experiences. I always look for patterns when solving an issue. It appears to be random as some manual uploaders are not having any problems but others are. Why? My theory may be dead wrong but it may be caused by Sense. Those who use launchers may be avoiding the ptob. I'd like to see a list of people using alternative launchers and find out

Sent from my Thunderbolt.

I'm using the Sense launcher but Beautiful Widgets for the clock and weather.

I'm not experiencing random re-boots.

I just think it's crazy that there are two very different sides of the spectrum described here. I have been one of the "lucky" ones who pulled the update manually and had everything go smoothly. No random reboots at all, no crazy battery drain, just a regular run of the mill update that helped my gps lock a little bit faster and my phone works like it should otherwise. I'm sorry to hear that others are having such a terrible time. I would be just as frustrated as the rest of you in the same situation. HTC needs to work this out asap

I am using Launcher Pro and did the update manually, via the 1x way. No reboots for me. Battery the same.

I installed the leaked version. it did the reset and it reloaded all my stuff. No problems here.
By the way Astro file manager pro will do back up's. I have since reset my phone again due to it not connecting to my pc and after it connected it redownloaded all my apps. Launcher pro restore reset my icons. All I had to do was re install my widgets and site log on's
