I am a long time Verizon customer. The X sound intriguing, but I got burnt on my last Moto phone from Verizon.
I bought the Droid Razr, and about a month later they came out with the Maxx, which really annoyed me.
I am not sure that I even want to stay with Verizon now that TMO has made their plans so juicy.

Well, Verizon will be getting the Moto X and the new Droids, so you should have a wide selection of phones to choose from.

How did Motorola burn you? Did your RAZR not perform up to your standards?
Burned me in two ways:
1. Released a clearly superior phone a few weeks later that had MUCH better battery life.
2. Motorola+Verizon= almost no updates.
I know it is subjective, but it is the way I feel. This phone will have to sport some awesome specs for me to buy it.

But isn't the RAZR on 4.1? After launching with 2.3 that's a good cycle. Puts it on par with the Nexus S. I consider 2 major updates good.

I was lucky and didn't get around to getting the razr until the maxx came out.. yeah it sucked that they didn't tell anyone of the maxx coming out.. but that was probably to wanting to sell the razr as the most thin smartphone.. and then gave the option for the huge battery.
A lot of people felt burned, understandable. To me the 3300mah battery should be the norm by now, because it is such a big selling point. My note2 goes all day and to be honest im not going back to a smaller battery because my last two ( note2 and maxx) have spoiled me!

I don't understand this attitude. Of course new phones are always coming out. If you like the Maxx better you could have sold your RAZR and bought a Maxx.

Don't you know? Some people think that once they buy a phone, another better phone is not allowed to come out until they're ready to buy a new one.

He got burned just as he said in his post. Did you read all of it ? He said that he bought the Droid RAZR and a month later Verizon came out with the RAZR MAX . That was why he got burned.

Not really a fair comment, ultravisitor. Droid Razr was released, and within an extremely short period of time the Maxx came out which is clearly a better device. You can't tell me that Verizon and Moto didnt know that the Maxx was in the pipeline for release. I blame myself for being an early adopter.
The whole point to this thread is that I think that other companies have been releasing superior phones lately. It will take a tremendous feature set to get me to look twice.

I want to get this phone as an upgrade to my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, but I also have some reservations.

What I really want is another Nexus on Verizon and one that is made by Motorola. Since I don't think we'll be seeing another VZW Nexus in the future, I am hoping the Motorola X can fit the bill.

It has to have at least a 4.7 inch screen since I don't want to downgrade compared to my Nexus and it has to have at least 32 GB storage.

I doubt it will have an SD card and, after owning a VZW GNex for 1 1/2 years, I'm OK with that. However, I would find it difficult to get by with anything less than 32 GB of storage. A typical nandroid will take around 2 GB right away. I also like to keep other files on my phone for use as a USB flash drive.

1. Documents 2. Key Drivers for my laptop and desktop in case I ever have a drive failure or virus 3. Music and videos so I don't need to have a data connection for entertainment.

Obviously, I suppose I could carry a separate USB drive for these type of files and connect it to my phone via an OTG cable, in order to enjoy music and media. However, it would be an inconvenience having to live with anything less than 32 GB with no expandable storage.

If it isn't a Nexus device, it must still have an unlockable bootloader,

The hardware on my Nexus may not be state of the art, but has enjoyed strong developer support and can get timely updates. That is a big reason why it has remained relevant and why I've kept it for so long.

If the bootloader is locked and encrypted, I doubt the developer support will be as strong and flashing/ROMing/updating is a big reason I have been able to keep my current phone as long as I have.

I got burnt by Motorola too. They never released a single update for the Motorola I have. Not only not any updates to Android, but not even a single patch to fix bugs. Nothing. Nada. Zip. The way it was released on day one, was the way it stayed. Which is why most likely they will be getting the same in return from me in the future! Nada! Zip. Nothing.

It would take a really amazing device with proven track record of bug fixes before I would even consider them again.

What Motorola phone do you have?

1. That superior phone was also sold at a higher price point.

2. So which Gingerbread phones are running some form of Jelly Bean now? Motorola and Verizon have done a great job of getting updates out.

The S2 and Nexus S, that might be about it other than ports made for legacy devices by CM, AOKP, etc.

1) So it's a wrong for a manufacturer to improve their product portfolio? It's not as if the RAZR was sold for three weeks, discontinued, then replaced by the RAZR MAXX; Motorola pushed out a second device aimed at a different market offered at a different price point. That's not being burned, that's just being unhappy with a purchase that you decided to make.

2) RAZR line started with Gingerbread, now they're at Jelly Bean. How is that "no updates?"

I don't think anyone had trouble comprehending the original post, but you've evidently missed the point we've all been making here.

I'd blame it on VZW over all of that.

To be honest I used to LOVE moto phones. Until they became mostly vzw company. The atrix line sucked when the droid were amazing (****ty software) but hey that's vzw
