We've waited 30 years for monitors that can show eye popping graphics and the future user interfaces are one dimensional dark screens with block letter fonts and stick figure icons. It's like gui developers are on a reverse acid trip and are forcing the rest of us to live is this crappy nightmare world. It's like the DOS "Hello World!" first programmers stab at writing computer code.
I have a $300 phone with 10 cent graphics that I have to look at every time I use my smart phone. What makes it worse is that the screens are all dark until I see my homescreen wallpaper and I have to squint because it is now like looking at the sun. Worse is that it has co-opted all my stock apps like Navigation and they all looks as awful.

Improving an OS is great!, destroying the user interface is rape:mad:!!! I am not referring to the home screen which is not a ui but an app. See this pic and is says it all: https://picasaweb.google.com/118429560322600065429/IceCreamSandwichOSIsGreatTheUIIsWorthless

How can I root my phone and keep the OS and replace the ui with an rock solid eye-popping one like type Windows 7's explorer.

I'm desperate because I have enough terrible things in my life and I have to deal with this constantly.

HELP PLEASE

HELP PLEASE

I can't really help you. All I can do is disagree. With ICS and Nova Launcher installed along with Beautiful Widgets and HD Widgets, I think my Razr home screen is far and away the most attractive home screen of any phone I've ever seen - far better than stock Gingerbread, and miles better than iPhone4. In ICS they made changes that improve just about everything and which make just looking at the phone a pleasure, not to mention using it.

I suggest if you don't like your phone, change it. That's what Android is all about. Launchers are either free or cheap. Go Launcher is free and has a zillion free themes, Nova is small and fast and looks good. Widgets are anything from free to a couple of bucks. I gladly paid for the packs I have on my phone.

I'm not sure if this is a troll or a genuine question cast in a dramatic way, but in either case there is no reason to have a phone screen you aren't happy with when you have Android. This thread could be repurposed for ways to dress up your screen.

And Metro? Really? Have you even looked at Metro? There is zero similarity.

I don't understand much of what you are saying. I am not talking about the app called homescreen. I use the Go Launcher EX and that effects wallpaper and most apps are not effected by the Metro UI look alike yet. I am referring to the dark disturbing look of the user interface buil into the Ice Cream Sandwich OS and can't be changed. Here is a screenshot: https://picasaweb.google.com/118429560322600065429/IceCreamSandwichOSIsGreatTheUIIsWorthless

I ran the preview of Windows 8 preview on my laptop for a week. Read up on that and see how they radically removed everything that made Windows 7 awesome. Microsoft had rudely and defiantly said that is the future (in the crazy world) and Win8 will never return to a Windows 7 UI.

I also beta tested some software for a couple of months and in the beginning I thought I liked it, but the more I worked with it the more I haded to see the screen and the unintuitive way the non-G-UI Metro inspired look and feel had become. Everything was over simplified to the point a baby could figure out just the very basics and the Advanced users is left with comprehension of how to do the advanced features that did always have a way to do it.
This is a mentality that monochrome = speed and the user be damned because this how things will be from now and if you don't like it then put a bullet in your head.
I am stuck with this new phone and don't have the money or time to sell this one and buy what exactly: Every OS is going this way and we are all screwed.

Oh, come now. This is a genuine cry for help from a damaged spirit. Probably they miss the curvacious lusciousity of their old yellow dial wall phone from 1963. That transparent finger dial! That coiled handset cord! And oh, that thick, firm plastic case with the brass ringer volume lever sticking out the bottom! Now that, my friend, is simplicity and elegance in design.

PS - Yes, I did have fun writing that :)

Hmm. I felt that same way when I went from VMS on a VAXcluster to my first Windows machine - a 286 running Windows 2. VMS was awesome and powerful, but I know my wife couldn't have dealt with it, despite several masters degrees and scary smarts. I managed to get over it without the suicide option though, and right now I'm pretty happy with Android.

I don't see how you can copy something when you are released first first.

You have to remember that ICS is just an evolution of gingerbread and honeycomb combined. There are reasons for a lot of the looks and transitions. Mostly battery life and ease of use. The screen on smart phones is one of the biggest power draws. Using dark screens helps save battery. Also using block letters makes it easy to decipher words on smaller screens. Android works on screens from 2" up.

You have to understand that it is not just made for your $300 phone

Considering that most of the people have not used Windows 8 most people have no idea what your talking about. Nor do they care. Don't have the time or money to sell your phone but you have time to come on here and complain? Go sell your phone on ebay or swappa and buy your windows phone and see how well you like the pos!

It takes years and years to sell a phone. Years............and years. I compare it to raising a child. If you don't have the time and dedication to do it right, then you're simply stuck in the eternal loop of misery and sorrow each time you must unlock your phone and suffer through the miserable, pathetic UI.

Such difficult lives we lead....Imagine......suffering through a UI that has some icons that we don't lust after. People in the earlier days had it so easy. Jumping on their horse and riding for a few short weeks to get anywhere, and never having to suffer through the trials and tribulations of the ICS UI.

I've seen WIN8 on a lot of sites and one thing I do agree with - it's hideous. To my eyes anyway. On the other hand it will probably makes sense to a lot of people for a phone, not so much for tablet or desktop. It's clean and simple looking. About as attractive as the southern end of a northbound mule, but still very straightforward. I prefer some aesthetics.

I didn't say nobody seen it i just said MOST PEOPLE haven't seen it. I saw it too but i'm in that demographic of people that don't care.

Everything about this post is win.
