Seeing as how this is a flapship device, i would think that moto would want to get this thing updated as soon as possible in order to keep up and stay competitive with the upcoming phones from verizon for this winter.

The problem here is you assume there is any logic to the way OEMs handle their updates. What Moto will do to stay competitive is release a new phone with the newest operating system, and update everything else "when I get around to it, don't rush me!"

It is only a flagship device until the next one comes out, which is the Prime. If i had to guess, I would think that your fine gentlemen and ladies will get it around February.

Hes talking about moto's flagship, moto isn't making the prime samsung is

either wayI don't think the prime is going to be a "flagship device", I doubt it will even get the droid name. It'l be huge around the nerd community, but I doubt verizon will do any real advertising just like every other nexus released.

Surely you jest. Droid name or not, it is going to be the first pure Google phone on vzw and the first with ICS, and the holidays are coming. The are gonna talk this up huge.

Typically, Motorola is really good about getting updates out to their flagship phones relative to other OEMs (at least in the U.S.). I'd say next Q2 2012 would be my guess for an update to ICS.

I seriously doubt we're going to see a "pure Google phone" on Verizon ever. I love the service Verizon provides so I tolerate all their bloat, but I can't see them releasing a phone that has not had the standard heap of garbage they add to all phones. If that occurs, then you loose all your purity.

In my humble opinion, the only way we'll see a pure Google phone on Verizon is one of the manufactures releases a new device that contains all of the radios in it (including CDMA), so that you can buy it retail and walk into a Verizon store to have them activate it.

Yes (though actually, that deal is NOT finalized), but Google does not own Verizon and if a manufacturer wants to sell their devices at Verizon, then they have to allow them to pile on their junk.

I love Verizon, Google and Motorola, but if anyone thinks that Verizon is going to sell a phone that does not have Verizon's stuff added to the system, then you're not thinking clearly.

What you are missing is the draw that a pure google phone will have for verizon. Does verizon get to put bloat on the iphone? No, and it will be the same for the prime. You can expect to pay more for it because of the lack of bloat, but part of the deal for allowing verizon to be the exclusive carrier to start will be no bloat

I can almost guarantee you that this does not factor into the mind of 90% of the phone purchasing masses. You have to look beyond here if you want to see the true marketability of a phone.
