Icons changed to generic android icon

[Android Central Question]

Ive been trying to fix this for hours now. The icons of 2 apps on my homescreen (and everywhere else the app can be viewed) have changed to the defualt android icon. They arent saved to sd card, i dont have an sd card, ive tried removing the short cut and re-adding them. Nothings working. Please help, its driving me insane, i downloaded 3 apps at once, the first to download was fine but these other two are just like this now.

What apps and what phone, and downloaded from where?

Have you rebooted?

Are you sure the apps are installed? Do they run when you tap the icons? (The usual cause of the generic icon is that the app used to be there, but isn't any longer [or, in your case, that it only partially installed].)

I realize this question is posted in 2019 but I can tell how to fix it even if I still don't know why it happened.

Long press icon and select edit icon. Select a suitable choice. Done.

Welcome to Android Central! Thanks for sharing that reasonable workaround, but it still doesn't explain why something like this happened -- a properly installed app should still be associated with its proper default icon.
