Icons lost

I have updated my S7 to OneUI 3.1. I also use Nova launcher. I find that when I open up the multi-tasking screen that some of the icons across the bottom have been replaced by generic Android icons (I've uploaded a screenshot of the area, although the icons have not been replaced in this sample). It usually happens after it's been 2-3 days since I rebooted the tablet.

I'm not sure if those icons are managed by Android or by Nova launcher.

It goes back to normal when I restart the tablet.

Has anyone else experienced this.

Nova or any other custom launcher don't have control over the multitasking/Recent screen. Are you using an SD card to store any of those apps?

It's managed by andriod, when you go recent app like how your picture is look at the top search bar ,on the right side the 3 dots tap and settings , you can turn it off

I do have an SD card in the device, but no apps are installed on it.

I was pretty sure it was controlled by Android, not the launcher.

I never knew this can be turned off. Thanks for showing me where/how. It is now turned off!

The Recent apps/multitasking overview is controlled by the stock launcher even if you are using a third party one.

Your welcome!

I guess the question still is whether anyone else encountering the issue I described with the multi-tasking icons? I eventually get the generic Android icons on both my Tab S7 and my Note 10 with Android 11.

If your using a icon pack and it will stay with native then Andriod doesn't allow it .

Right, I'd expect to see the normal icons. Instead, after 2-3 days, I start to see a generic Android icon for a couple of the icons in this recommended apps list. This is the generic Android head on a green or bluish background. I've attached a similar icon I found on the web (since if course I can't make it happen when I try).

So this what you see , hmm very strange , never run into that. Try this go to galaxy store and reapply your stock theme

I would think something wrong with a theme would happen all the time. It works OK for a few days and then goes buggy.

Since I never used the recommendations anyway I'm just happy with turning them off.

My experience from generic icon like that is a theme issue or 3rd party launcher that was used and then back to to stock launcher and icon didn't go back to normal .

Have you tried in Nova settings to kill and restart launcher? Just an option
Home settings screen, scroll to bottom, advanced

I used to see that type of generic android icon when I ran some apps off the microSD card instead of on the phone. Never found out why it happened but it was only the apps on the SD card. Once I moved them back to device storage the icons returned to normal.
