Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Just wanted to say thanks for all the work that goes on in this community. You guys always go at it like you're fighting a fire! Really makes it a fun hobby. :)

Returned to stock from AOKP using Wug's Toolkit (highly recommened - please donate).
Flashed the update.
Lost Root.
Restored root with this SU update in this thread. File link below thread.

Awesome. I love the AC Community. :D

EDIT: Made an idiot and rookie move, and did not back up my nandroid or titanium backup to my computer. Failed to realize it would wipe my "SD" too. Doh!!! I have a nice few hours of work ahead.

Superb. I presume that if most follow this they'll be able to avoid the Status 7 error. Remember, I can't stress this enough--this type of "patching" OTA can be EXTREMELY finicky if the slightest ghost in the machine exists. Taking it back to stock with Wugs and using that method eliminates possible ghosts.

So yes, while you may lose stuff if you lock/unlock, backup your SDcard and that should be a moot problem.

Anyone mind telling me in a bit more detail how to do the update the way this guy says on his site? I dont really understand what he means or what all the command lines are put into. Thanks for the help in advance.

IMM76K Direct for Verizon Galaxy Nexus Manual OTA Instructions [UPDATED][New Working Link] ? StrifeJester's Rants

I would have to sit down and go through, which I'm unable to do today. It appears that it's just a method of directly pushing it. You still need to be on the stock 4.0.2, rooted and unlocked, with the stock radios and such.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

I am stock but a link said you do not have to be unlocked to do that as well as it would do a temp root to update then lock it down again. But thanks for looking. Its all good you dont have time. I know people have lives. I am just home for the month on convalescent leave. lol

Honestly, after reading that post--this seems to be a more "hardcore" method of doing it. However, if you follow my advice/guide, particularly taking everything back to stock with Wug's, unlocking/rooting, flashing the latest TOUCH recovery, putting the latest SU.zip (seen a few posts above), and removing the recovery folder so as to avoid any recovery conflicts, you should come out with a rooted 4.0.4 device in no time :).

Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Thanks for the info all. I'm on the new radios and have noticed a marked signal improvement so far.

+1 for better radios. I'm on vacation and this hotel is a data signal death trap. Updated the radios and I'm now getting 2-3 bars.

Yeah I seem to have more consistency now and that's coming from the leaked 4.0.4 radios from before. So I'm happy we will see if it continues

Any idea when the OTA update will hit?

If it's soon I'll wait, otherwise I'll apply as suggested in this thread.

Honestly, no idea. It was pulled late last night, but as far as we know now, it's still soak testing (meaning certain users in certain regions are updating to test it out).

I would expect a rollout to happen this month, perhaps later on, but until we get/see confirmation of such, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Thanks for the advice. Im trying not to unlock my bootloader though as I dont want to wipe the phone.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Yea, I really don't want to either but everyone seems to say it is so easy. I keep going back and forth every day on unlocking and rooting. I just want my phone to have a data signal when I turn it on.

Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Fellow member "indianajonze" had success with this method, and he was able to keep root with the SU.zip featured here. CWM stuck, and these are the steps he took:

yes.

1) unlocked and rooted device brought back to 100% stock 4.0.2.
2) downloaded IMM76K, rebooted into recovery flashed the update file, rebooted to 4.0.4, still unlocked but now un-rooted.
3) installed the su.zip file provided (NOT the Superuser 3.0.7 file as that didn't work), flashed via recovery, rebooted and was rooted again.
4) reflashed recovery to 5.5.0.4 for good measure
5) updated superuser binary to 3.0.3.2
6) enjoying life

Re: [ICS][4.0.4] Official IMM76K Update Thread for the VZW GNex

Does unlocking the bootloader alone wipe the phone's data? I am interested in installing this update manually, but not at the cost of having to set up everything on my phone again. So far, my phone is working pretty well and I only want to do the update if it is entirely painless.

that method uses an app of some kind to get you updated. it's pretty complicated.

if you want to try it, i can explain what most of the commands are telling you to do, and what the files are.

i have never used this method however.

yes unlocking the bootloader erases everything, sd card included
