ICS Downloading

I dont know how many times I can stress this..."CLICKING THE SOFTWARE UPDATE BUTTON DOESN'T DO ANYTHING. The update is PUSHED... It will notify you when your phone is due for the update. Period. Nothing more. Nothing less. Quit wasting your ing time.

It's possible to get the update without a notification so there's no harm in checking.

Not really. If you get the update when you are in the update menu, its because the update was already being pushed to your device. The only reason the update menu exists is so that if you miss an update that's already gone out to the other subscribers, you can check and see if your device needs it. Pressing it in situations like this does absolutely nothing.

I was able to sideload ICS. My phone is not rooted. Everything went smoothly. ICS is a nice change from GB. The file dled to the computer is the same release as the OTA push. I dont like the fact that they removed the ability to switch to CDMA only. Battery is taking a bit of a hit from being on LTE all the time. Hopefully an app to switch back to CDMA is developed. I'm using APEX luancher as well. So far i like it a lot, however the ability to drop widgets from the app drawer is restricted unless the device is rooted. But the customizabilty is outstanding! If you're that anxious about getting ICS, do a search for sideloading it.

Any bugs or downsides to ICS so far?

Either dial *#*#4636#*#* and select phone information or download LTE On/Off (HTC Thunderbolt) from the Play Store. Both options will bring up the same menu and you can select CDMA Only (Auto PRL).

You can also disable applications which will disable them from the application drawer. You do this by long pressing the icon, sliding it to the more options tab at the top of the home screen and than select app info. You can disable most applications by doing this so it saves battery while also removing it from the drawer.

The other way to disable applications is to hit the menu button, select manage apps, and than scroll through the all tab and see which ones are able to be disabled.

The only downside for me is not being able to customize the shortcuts on the slider lock screen. Other than that, nothing but an amazing experience.

There have been a few reports of an increase in data drops or decrease in battery life, but it's just the opposite of both for me.

I've heard a lot about the lag in the ICS stock keyboard. How is it for you?

I haven?t experienced any lag in the stock keyboard but I used it all of 30 minutes and then switched to swiftkey.

I think "notification" was the key word here. It's entirely possible for someone to discover that there's an update available without having received a notification that it's ready and waiting for them. For example, I received an alert from Verizon that ICS was "coming soon," but when I checked for updates, it showed my Maxx was up to date. The following morning a check showed that I had an update available, but there was no proactive notification that it was there waiting for me.

Lots of people seem to have received the first notification mentioned above, but are finding the same thing I did . . . that there's no ICS immediately available for them. Thus the frustration.

i havent noticed any bugs or flaws. really it feels like a new phone and im
still getting familiar with it. the only real flaw is not with ICS itself, rather than with the launcher that im using.

considering that the GB lock screen only had 2 options and iterations preceeding this version, i say the 4 options they give you are pretty good. true it wouldve been nice to include that customizabilty, but there are apps that allow you to do just that. locker widget was one i purchased and used back when the only option was swipe to unlock.

i havent experienced any lag in the ICS kb. but coming from a BB w/ physical qwerty, my thumbs are still in detox and im trying hard to settle into a touchscreen. i will say i find the ICS kb far superior to GB. i purchased swiftykey and dont kno if ill be going back. although swiftkey is pretty good @predicting txt.

How come we're all shouting out where we're from if we know it has nothing to do with the update? Why not shout out our serial numbers of our phone or something more useful?

I like basketball, still no update. Have any soccer fans received it? Maybe they are pushing it out in relation to your favorite sports team, or your political affiliation?

im a mog and i stuffed ice cream sangwich in my side. im half man half dog... im my own best friend.

I'm eating spaghetti in Illinois, watching reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and picking my nose but still haven't got it.
Gonna try going to the bathroom while I'm on the phone with Verizon complaing later and see if that helps.

I don't care what kind of phone you use, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence. Sent using tapatalk 2.
