Okay...So I've seen a lot of complaints regarding problems with the ICS update. However, I am curious how many people DIDNT have any problems. Myself, the ota update went off without a hitch on my phone. The first thing I did was watch the videos on the help menu, and you- tube. Overall, I am satisfied with the update. I know some of the changes I like are very subtle, but I'm curious how it has affected other bionic users. Any major/ minor criticisms? Any new game changing features? Likes? Dislikes? Overall for me, I like the app button. I no longer have my app folders on any screen, I simply access the folders thru the main screen button. All my folders are still there, and I can choose with folder to leave on this button. ( its news for me)

I am very satisfied with ICS on the Bionic. The performance boost alone was worth the upgrade, and all of the ICS-specific features that came along with it were welcome too. It will take a couple of weeks to learn all of the new UI cues and other subtleties, but in the end I feel making the move to the updated OS has 1) increased the performance and stability of the phone and 2) extended the lifespan of the device.

I have noticed that most who have been unhappy with the update have either 1) installed a huge number of apps on their device or 2) rooted and otherwise changed things behind the scenes. Another commonality seems to be integration with corporate email and/or email services outside of Gmail. It will be interesting to see how these items are resolved in the coming months.

I've had no issues whatsoever. I installed ICS leaks up to 232 myself then HOB to install 247. Then used HOB to downshift to 246 when ota was confirmed. Love all aspects of ICS, speed and performance have been good since the moment I installed it. I will say until I used HOB. I ALWAYS rsd'd a clean version of 902 fxz, then took ota 905, then installed the leak. Never tried to save any apps or data save for backing up with titanium backup. I always made sure to have the cleanest install possible. Once I upped to 247 I did use save data option with HOB coming down to 246. Slight pain with reinstalling and setting up things the way I like before that, then HOB worked like a charm. :)

Edit: I've been rooted every step of the way.

My BIG gripe is ICS brought back headphone whine and separated phone from contacts which is now People

Interesting...I forgot to note that my phone is bone stock with about 120 apps...I too, have noticed the high-pitched whine on my earbuds. I only notice it when there is nothing playing. Once the music starts, it seems to go away. I have a $20 music player I plug my phone into at work, and a little bullet speaker I use at home. I really havent noticed the " whine" on these. My earbuds are some $30 skull candy ones. I guess I can live with the noise as long as it doesnt get any louder. I can see how this could be annoying.

I am very satisfied... only problems are minor annoyances. Its like a new phone. No data drops, much better performance with apps, and multitasking.

Props to Moto for releasing it!

Can't wait for Jelly Bean.

Forgot to mention this as well - no more data drops, which I started having within the months leading up to the ICS update, but didn't have since day one. I have not had a return of the headphone whine.

Okay...checked out my little bullet speaker...yup. the whine is there. I guess its one of those " things"... I cant honestly say it was or wasnt there before, but I'm pretty sure it wasnt. Now that I know its there, I suppose I notice it more...Still- not a deal-breaker...I loved my bionic before, and I still love it..I use it for so many things I sometimes feel guilty just calling it a "phone". I call it Steve. After the 6 million dollar man. LoL.

mine whines even thru the music--much worse than the whine last year, at launch, and which lasted until the first OS update (in Dec, IIRC)

You'll always get that one whiner that will post the issue they're having in every single thread.

I like the new multitasking. I can "kill" apps with just a swipe.

I like the new Roboto font. On-screen, it looks a lot crisper and more modern than the previous Android font (I think the font was called Droid). Text seems easier to read.

I like the new lock screen and it's ability to swipe to four functions instead of one (unlock). I was never a big fan of apps that replaced OEM features, never used a launcher for more than an hour, never used anything like Widget locker. I always felt that those were just added bloat.

I like how I can now disable built-in apps that I don't use. It's not exactly uninstalling, they still take up space. But out of sight, out of mind.

I love Webtop 3.0. Using my Bionic in the Lapdock is much better now, especially with apps that can switch into tablet mode. Webtop 3.0 operation is much smoother. Motorola was a step ahead. If ICS was ready when the Atrix, Photon, and Bionic first arrived, we'd probably see it gain more traction that it did (though accessory pricing was probably the biggest thing that stifled adoption of Webtop).

I like having Widgets in the app drawer.

I like how Motoblur is toned down even more. I am in the camp that truly understands why OEMs "skin" their devices. Differentiation is key. Understand that, and get over it. I came from the original Motorola DROID, for all intents and purposes was a "Nexus"-like device used to launch Eclair. However, in my previously line of work, I did get to see the abomination that was the early generation of Blur devices. Going from Blur-less DROID to the GingerBlur DROID Bionic wasn't drastic. But going from Motorola's implementation of Gingerbread to Motorola's implementation of Ice Cream Sandwich is certainly a step in the right direction. If OEM "skins" are your main gripe, and you're not in the market to purchase a Nexus phone off-contract, Motorola should be your OEM of choice.

I like how reception has seemed to improve.

I like organizing my home screen with folders. I've cut down the number of screens I use.

I like how the phone feels faster.

I like how Google Music gives me lock screen controls now.

I don't like how they removed the ability to toggle between 3G-only and 3G/4G LTE in the settings menu. This isn't necessarily an ICS gripe though. This is something Verizon is doing to all of their smartphones. You can still toggle in a hidden menu though.

Ever since I upgraded my Bionic has constant problems of freezing and rebooting. It seems to do it when I try to multitask and/or at times when I'm navigating through the phone fast. It does it SO OFTEN! Its so frustrating, GB used to handle it fine and I never had these problems. I already factory reset but it still happens. Anyone else have this problem?

My update took a long time to download. Many starts and stops, mainly from my driving a lot. Once I was settled in one place it went just fine. I like the ICS update with only a couple thing I don't like, but it will be just fine!

Ry, can you share your general impressions of Webtop and how you used it? This was a technology that I was very interested in and was sorry to see it shelved.

MY ICS upgrade was seamless. Except the battery usage has accelerated. And, I seem to have lost the LED notification of new emails, missed calls, next texts, etc., in the upper right corner. Any way to get it back? Was this glitch caused by the ICS upgrade?

There's a lot of background processing going on for the first day or so...battery life will improve after a few days. Notification light only works when the screen is off.

Thanks, Tom. Unfortunately, my notification light doesn't work when the screen is off. It's disappeared!

The previous Webtop vs. the current Webtop?

My OTA kept failing and I had to do the update manually. I rooted my phone again and it has been awesome ever since. My battery life has more than doubled and I have no idea why but Im not complaining at all =) I have NO complaints about the update. Nothing has gone wrong................yet....
