ICS update question

I just updated my transformer to ICS and so far I am enjoying it, its the most I have ever used my tablet.
My question is, when ICS starts to roll out for my e3d will I lose my root? or would I have to flash a rom? (which I still have no clue how to do,)

You will lose root. Most likely (hopefully) someone will come up with a root method for ICS. Just wait 48 hours. Don't accept the update until the devs get their hands on it. Worst case scenario (but unlikely) you would need to flash a stock rooted ROM. Don't worry, we will be happy to help.

If you are rooted and have a custom recovery installed (TWRP or CWM) then there will likely be a stock rooted ISC ROM available before the official update drops. Our devs are good like that. You might want to try your hand at flashing a custom ROM prior to updating to ICS just to make sure you got the hang of things. Are you on hboot 1.4 or 1.5?

Since you're on hboot 1.5, you should consider downgrading it so you can get s-off. With s-off you can take the ota, and while it WILL unroot you, it will NOT set your "s" back to "on"(theoretically). With s-off, all you have to do is flash a custom recovery and the superuser zip. Then you'll have a rooted ics ota.

you cant take a OTA update on a custom recovery, ICS isnt even out yet so how is she going to get it OTA?

She didn't say it was out, she said "when it rolls out, will I lose root?"

And I have taken an ota with a custom recovery. But that was on my EVO 4g so if its different on the 3d, then id suggest still downgrading to get s-off, and when the ota does come she can just ruu to 2.17, 2.08, 1.13 from hboot. Then take the ota, still s-off, and will just need a custom recovery and superuser. or maybe their will be an ics ruu.

I've ruu'd many times with a custom recovery on the phone.

Right you can run a RUU on custom recovery because it takes you back to stock, but a OTA will reboot to apply the update and it looks for the stock recovery to finish,so if your on a custom recovery it will not take
