ICS Update

I did my upgrade Tuesday night and the servers worked then. Most people didnt realize there was an update or that it wasnt available through the phone itself and only via PC and Kies. So it could just be that the servers are getting nailed more now than they were the first couple of nights due to it.

The only thing I could say is try the method I have posted about with the Tools>Firmware upgrade and initialization. It might work better than just the normal upgrade option.
Thanks. I did try both methods. And I started Tuesday too a few times around noon and again around midnight. same as today.

I will try tomorrow. I actually thought there might have been an issue with kies a my phone wasn't getting recognized our it kept disconnecting. This is my first time using kies.

happiness is an updated KIES and then Ice Cream Sandwich for my Birthday. Thanks Samsung.

Double Whammy on the server side. Peeps having to download the latest version of Kies and then hitting the server again for the OS upgrade.
I never could get the latest build of Kies to install, so I downloaded an earlier version that worked great.

Has anyone, who received the ICS update, noticed that on the home and other screens of the phone at the top there now is the following" Weather Information from AccuWeather.com? I have not been able to delete this or the app. I prefer not to root for now.

I was able to figure it out. This was the result of picking a live weather wallpaper from stock which had the notation on the top of every page which was bleeding through the digital clock at the top. Maybe good advertising but in the wrong place and should be removable !

Cannot get the update for the note that I'm stuck with through kies. Oh well, lesson learned. I'll use Jelly Bean until they figure it out. No more carrier phones ever!!!

Well, after two days of frustration and feeling my way, I was finally able to get ICS upgrade onto my Note through Kies.

It takes patience for sure, and there were times I thought nothing was happening, but I got it so far all is good.

The changes are subtle and not glaring out at you like Jelly Bean, but there are some really nice touches added and I think it's worth the time investment.

Re: ICS Update - Auto Fit in Browser???

Did my ICS upgrade yesterday. So far, a lot of it seems nice. Noticed that I have a bug which is that the auto-fit in the browser no longer works. I used to zoom in and the auto fit would resize the page for me. Mine always had a bit of a bug because I would have to rotate the device and then rotate it back to get the text to fit the screen. After ICS upgrade, this no longer works at all. I double checked the settings and turned auto-fit back on but it doesn't seem to matter. Any suggestions or does anyone recognize where I'm screwing up?
Thanks,
Doc

Much appreciated,, I'm going to give Chrome a shot. I also noticed that the old, home screen brightness control is now disabled.

Gonna wait a while before attempting to download the update. Too many people reporting bugs and annoyances. I'm using a sweet Metro UI launcher, and have no intentions of going back to the ugly Android UI, regardless. But, ice cream sandwich would have been a helpful install, as it allows you to use Chrome browser. Well, once all the bugs are out, hopefully a better updated version of the current ICS update will be available. If not, I'm fine with the phone in its current state.

Ok I have vista sp2 laptop and a older XP desktop. I read kies won't work with vista so does it work ok on XP machines.

Also do I have to backup my phone contacts, and stuff . If so how? As I coming from ios ?

Many thanks

Jim

I performed the install just fine on an XP machine.

In regards to contacts; I save all my contacts in Google. This way I don't have to worry about backing them up or even transferring them from one device to another.

I recommend saving your contacts in Google so you never have any fear of losing them.

The install was a little bumpy at first, but that may have been from my jitters of having never used Kies or performed such a major upgrade on a phone before.

Once it got going everything was fine and I'm liking the new OS.

what version of ICS is everyone running? I just restarted my Note and when it turned back on it had a message "upgrading android system". Now im on version 4.04. Not sure if that changed or not.

4.0.4 was the version released via Kies and the one everyone should be running.

im on 4.0.4 also. I believe thats the official one from samsung and att.

Yes it is.

My vista laptop worked! Thanks everyone!

I will say my battery Burns faster now? Not sure what is up with that?

Any info on ics tricks or tips welcome. Came from ios so it's all new for me.

Can't get the update through the current version of kies. I am only able to reach 20%. Called Samsung and they didn't have a clue. They want me to ship the device to them for a week so they can try to perform the update. What an absolute joke.
