ICS Upgrade for Asus Transformer TF101 is now Available in US

Ok, to all of you bit... I mean experiencing EASILY FIXED issues and being quite vocal and abusive towards Asus about it...
It's your own damn fault.

To start off, any time you take a computer from one major OS revision to another (ie XP to Visa/7, Snow Leopard to Lion, any iOS to any other iOS version) it is a good idea to back up all your data... and just nuke it. I worked for AppleCare through TWO major OS revisions. I was there for the drop of iOS 4 & 5. Let me tell you this, in all my time owning a Smartphone and supporting them (Blackberries, iPhones, and all my friends' android products) it's just best to go ahead and do a factory reset before and after you deal with flashing a new OS. All of you who do custom roms should know this already as the first thing they advise with EVERY new flash is to wipe EVERYTHING and then restore it from a backup of some form (Titanium is great for all you rooted users).

This is something I recommend for ANY time there is a Kernel Change in the update. Of course there is one here, because it's an entirely new OS.

So before you and moan about the update, why don't you try the (to quote an earlier post) "dreaded factory reset". Y'know what, it ain't dreaded, it's just that you don't want to put any work into your Android device just like a lot of whiny people don't want to touch their iPhones because they feel it should always "Just work." Well that little illusion best be out the window because NOTHING "just works"

tldr; just backup and factory reset it, watch all your problems go away. It has on every Transformer I've touched and my personal one, image retention issues aside, works insanely better since the update.

i went to settings to check for updates and i have nothing. i have the tf101; on the box AS TF101 1B/T250/16G/1G/W. I live in md.:'(

kamui957, If a factory reset is required before an official update of any kind then the manufacturer should say so. The update for an unrooted Eeepad didn't say to do a factory reset. However, for those with rooted tablets with issues, a backup and a factory reset may be in order.

Im still in the same boat. Do i need to do a factory reset to have this update show up? That's pretty extreme, and without root I'll lose my app data...

I love seeing people who have never posted before in the forums feel the sudden need to educate the rest of the community.

Look, before you, with your 2 posts in these forums go and start giving everyone the run down about how wrong we are, know that when a manufacturer puts out an update, no matter who it is, Microsoft, apple, Google, or Asus, its their responsibility to ensure it works correctly. This is why manufacturers often release bug fixes for many items that users have problems with.

If there are compatibility issues, then it is also that manufactures responsibility to warn the users, and remove the old data during the update. (Its been done before so its not that big of a stretch)

Also these are not isolated instances, many people are having issues with this new update. This is definitely something that may have been overlooked, and should be looked into by asus.

Telling people that the only way to avoid issues to do a full wipe before accepting manufacturer updates is like telling people to take a shower each time they use the bathroom. Even though it may be true, its shouldn't be necessary.

cheers.

Downloading it now in Jacksonville, FL.

Merry Christmas all over again! :-D

Wtf..did I miss it or something?! I am in Jacksonville, FL as well and I am wearing out my "Check Now" button for the update...starting to get annoying - may just go pull the rooted version and toss it on.

Well, I hardly think that the number of posts has anything to do with the intelligence of an individual. I think its a "good idea" to do a full wipe, but agree'd - it shouldn't be necessary. I think he was just saying, before complaining, try other logical alternatives.

And that analogy was just awful lol. Maybe if we used the bathroom once or twice a month it would make more sense.

Fyi - I still can't get my update! I am at a loss and too impatient...doesn't make sense that some guy just 15 minutes away from me can get the update, but I can't. Does it? Or are the updates based on some ID structure or something.

I''m also getting the android.process.media error as well. Anyone happen to know what this error is, or what apps are affected by this error?

My tablet now randomly shuts down. I'll think my tablet is asleep but actually it's turned off :(

Mine just started doing this today too. I almost want to downgrade to Honeycomb now.

I was having some of the same problems with the update that others have had (Gmail, reboots). After reading these posts, I did do a factory reset. All of the apps from the Android app store came back without my having to do anything. I did have to reinstall the Amazon App Store app, but when I did that, I was able to download and install the apps I got from there. Now my tablet is running great. I haven't seen any of the problems I had before.

So far so good for me too. But it is only slightly more than 24 hours after I did the factory reset. And BTW, after you have upgfraded to ICS and if you decided to go back to HC, that will nbot happen because you will automatically be welcomed by the ICS screen.

So far so good for me too. I did a factory reset last night and no problems. Thanks for all the advice. 24 hours and counting. :)

Y'all are killing me here!! I saw the posts about doing a factory reset so I tried that. STILL no ICS. What am I doing wrong that everyone else has it but me? :(

I assume that I have to go back to stock, correct?

Any good ICS ROMs yet? Currently running revolver...

My fiance has the same problem here in TN. No update showing up on her device as of yet either!

I upgraded to ICS a week ago.

The only issue I've had so far has been one random shut down (it didn't reboot). After that happened, I was half expecting it to constantly reboot, as some other forum members have reported, but it's been fine.

I do think ICS is a little faster than Honeycomb. The only thing I have to get used to is not opening the camera when I mean to unlock the device! :)
