I have installed an app call wickr pro which is a encryption communications app. When I close the app in Android 9 and sent a text I get a notification on the phone. With the app closed I tried to identify the background app that was still running and could not. I looked at open apps and running services.

Can anyone explain how this app or any app is identified as a running resource on the phone? I am running wick pro ver5.53.8 but received an update today May-25-2020 for version 5.54.7

If the app is closed and not actively processing anything, it will not show up as a running process (it's not hidden, it's just not running). Push notifications, however, are a different thing handled by a generic Android process sending app data directly to your phone, which then, when actioned, wake up the corresponding app and put it back 'to work'.
