If android wasn't Customizable, would you be using something different?

It got security updates for 2-3 years and was updated from Nougat to Oreo and then Pie. Sure, the OS updates weren’t quick but it’s not like the S8 wasn’t updated. But stock is the best for updates.
I totally agreez I also meant that in the amount of time that I had the Galaxy s8 when pie was out, , the S8 didn't receive any s/w updates at all...

It makes me think about sticking with the Pixel line...

I really want to like the Pixel line but apart from the camera and software I don’t see any reasons to switch. I was really considering getting the 3a XL but the processor and ageing design seems to be a let down. The A50s announced today is quite tempting although I’ll probably wait for the A51.

back to the original question about whether or not I would be using android if it was not customizable.

I swapped from the iphone to the original note phone because of the large screen. but when the screens on the iphone because larger I might have went back if it were not for customization. It is not because I think the iphone is a better phone but because I purchased a lot of apps. I try to support the developers when I can. fortunately with android you got google rewards so buying android apps is not out of my pocket other than answering a few questions :-)

I would suggest switching for the quick direct Google software updates, and lack of bloatware on the phone fast efficient simple operating system. Now call me right, if you don't care about most of that stuff then go Samsung. I now realized more than ever that Samsung become the apple of Android ecosystem meaning feature rich and luxury item.

Software and camera are really great, for sure. Maybe you'll be interested in the Pixel 4? I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

Design wise the Pixel 4 seems to be pretty good but nothing special slim bezels). The lack of a wide-angle lens is a shame, but otherwise I am expecting excellent photos from the P4. Performance and bells and whistles should also be solid. If the display is once again an FHD/QHD OLED then that should also be good. The 90hz display seems pretty cool, but I’m concerned about the apparent battery size.

I’ll see what the P4 turns out to be before making up my mind, but I’ll be observing the leaks and launch closely (it’ll be an interesting device)

in regards Pixel 4, I won't be buying one cuz I have my 3XL and I love it! However, I'm very very see what the radar technology project soli is all about.

It'll be an interesting device, for sure! And I bet the camera will be top notch. I'm not too interested in it at the moment but I'll keep a close eye on the launch, as usual! I love Pixel launches!

I agree :)

I'd actually flip this around slightly. If iOS was just a little more customisable I'd probably use an iPhone.

Looking forward to the Pixel too but fearing it looks to be falling from the ugly tree again.

I'm the other way around, I'm holding off on picking up a pixel 3 at the great $300 off pricing to clear the way for a possible pixel 4 purchase :-D

I would have agreed with you 2 years ago but now Android devices are so far ahead in terms of hardware that it doesn’t makes sense...plus Android’s main advantage is customisation.

The Pixel 4 looks pretty decent in my opinion. Not as good looking as the S10 or P30 Pro but there’s nothing wrong with slim bezel at the top.

Yes, that's very true. Samsung Galaxy phones have always been beautiful phones but they will never get soft rotates as quickly as pixel phones or even other Android phones. That being said, I still love the way my pixel 3 XL looks even with my D brand skin, and my rhino shield white bumper case. like I said, the main point of getting a pixel phone, is you in love with Google, you want an amazing industry leading camera, quick fast efficient software updates.

I agree , I love the pixel experience also.

well, I think you're very much! Again, I've never said that Samsung Galaxy phones aren't great or other Android manufacturers don't make good phones either... However, if you want a great Android clean intuitive experience, fast s/w updates, and machine learning that makes pictures look amazing, go for pixels!
