I downloaded astro file manager and backed up some apps onto the sd card.

should i now uninstall them and reinstall since they are saved on the SD card??

Just curious how this works.

Thanks

As long as your SD card is installed there is no reason to reinstall to the phone. The apps will work fine from the card installing back to the phone will waste internal memory.

Just because they're "saved" on the SD card doesn't mean that's where they would be installed. Only some apps can be "moved" to the SD card after installation. An easy way to find the installed apps that can be moved is with the Apps 2 SD app.

Also, even if an app is moved to SD in Froyo, it will take up a tiny bit of space on the internal memory as a placeholder for execution.

Yeah it definitely still takes up space on the internal memory. I'm at 101 apps with a lot of them on the SD card but I only have around 50 MBs available space on the ROM. Kind of sucks that the 1GB ROM really only has 340~MBs available with even with a factory restore.

Personally, I don't move anything to the SD card. The last thing I want is an app to hiccup or force close because i'm in USB drive mode and the app can't read the SD card.

Really? Apps to SD is something I thought everyone wanted with Froyo. You must not have many apps then.

i'm judicious with the apps that i put on my phone. i only install what i use. hence - i have plenty of internal memory left.

however - i think the ONE area HTC scrimped on with the EVO was internal storage memory. they should have included at least 8GB.

Yeah totally agree with it should having more internal storage. I guess I'll give uninstalling apps I really don't use a try and see if I notice any speed improvements. Just curious, how many apps do you have and how much internal storage do you have available?

Yea, and it seems like they still have not learned. The Desire HD only has 1.5gig's for internal storage!!

Really? Apps to SD is something I thought everyone wanted with Froyo. You must not have many apps then.

I have a certain philosophy when it comes to apps:

-If I don't use the app at least once a month it doesn't belong on my phone. I don't install apps for the sake of installing apps or the "some day I could use this" reasoning.

-Just because I could install 100 apps doesn't mean I should.

-The Market is a click away and most apps aren't that big in size unless they are games so downloading something when you need it isn't a big deal.

Great. Thanks for the AppBrain info. Even more helpful.

Yeah. I should start having that mind set too.
