If not the Note 5 then what?

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

I think you would be a complete nutter to not wait for the LG G4 Pro to come out. Samsung have really dropped the ball on the "new" Note. It is nothing more than a big S6 with a pen. With a smaller battery, no IR blaster and no 128 GB version. Samsung, what the hell were you thinking of limiting your bigger Note model to 64GB?

The Note 5 will tank. No iffs or buts about it. It deserves to fail and hopefully Samsung will learn its lesson and stop trying to be an Apple clone with no regards to its traditional user base.

DID YOU SEE AC'S homepage about 128GB could be coming afterall?

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

I'll recommend it to anyone who wants a note and doesn't like the 5.

I am an S4 user who has been waiting for the Note 5 release to move to the Note format. A removable batter is a must for me, so I'm now considering the Note 4. Is it too late to get one new? I have no idea how to go about getting a used one. Also, will the note 4 get me through 2 years before another upgrade? Any guidance would be appreciated!

3. LG G4 Pro
Rumored Note fighter with a stylus, 5.8'' 2K screen, possible removable battery and SD card support, and SD 820 processor, 4GB ram and a superb 27 MP camera with 1.8'' F stop, 2 Axis OIS, and laser auto focus.

LG has promised it will come out this year as the "more premium" flagship which of course scares me because "premium" now means sealed and less functional.

4. Huawei Nexus

Rumored to have 5.7'' 2K screen, SD 820 or Kirin 950 processor (Huawei's home grown chips are actually pretty comparable to Qualcomm's but can't use battery guru) 4 GB ram, and front facing speakers. Oh and 21 MP camera.

I'm super excited about this one but I wish the screen wasn't smaller than Nexus 6.

5. Nexus 6 (my current phone)

Much cheaper now, you can get 64 GB version for $500-$550 and I'm sure that clearance sales will bump that down another $50 or $100.

6'' 2K screen is stupendous for surfing net or watching media.

Front facing speakers are loud enough to listen to podcasts from across the room.

Some water resistance so if you splash water on it or drop it in a toilet it should survive.

6. Rumored Sony Xperia Z5+

The successor to the Z Ultra

Note sure about screen size, but 4K screen, SD 820 processor, front facing speakers and SD card support, oh and IP 67 water proofing in case you want to watch tv in the shower.

Sorry to burst bubble, but no phone from this year would have SD820 as you wish. that's going to be Q1 next year at the earliest. And I don't want 4K screen and 21+ MP camera. that's going to likely hurt performance and image quality. QHD and 16MP is more than enough for me.

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

So by all accounts the Note 5 isn't going to live up to the expectations many of us have set.

I'm still using an S3. Expandable storage isn't huge for me. Battery life on the other hand is key. I've read mix reviews about the efficiency of the Note 4 battery/processor combo. Given the rumoured 3000mAh battery in the note 5 I will have to wait and see what the reviews are like so far as they relate to battery life.

I'm after a top of the line phone with 4 gigs of ram , a fast processor and the best battery life possible. My question is, if the Note doesn't meet our expectations what are you all going to do?

Moto X? Keep your fingers crossed for the LG G4Pro ( none of the rumours have even hinted at its battery life)
If you want 4gb ram then cross the Moto X off the list. Personally, my g4 ran just fine with 3gb ram and I think a near stock Android would be fine with 3gb, but to each his own.

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

I will be looking at the Moto X Style (a.k.a the "Pure Edition" in the US).
I was considering this as well. However, with our impending defection from Verizon, we will be kind of forced into trading in our phones as we have a little over a year to go on our edge plans. Since the carriers do not carry the Moto X Pure, we may have to get the Note 5.
Money being the main stumbling block here.
I think the Moto X Pure will do well in this age of subsidies coming to an end.

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

Many bloggers have said the Moto X Pure have "clearly inferior" screen compared to the S6 and Note 4. I'm picky about my phone screens, so I don't see how I can possibly stand the Moto X Pure. That's the same reason I returned the LG G4. The screen is just not up to the brightness and colors of the Samsung Note 4 screen.

Having said that, I don't like the Note 5's nonremovable battery. I keep two extra batteries with my Note 4. During the average business day, I swap it out at least once.
People at the Moto launch said the display looked great with viewing angles, contrast and color/colour. How many of those bloggers actually used one at the event?

Unlike the G3 display that was commented on negatively (and right so) at the LG event.

We need reviews and see ourselves :)

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

Those are what I'm thinking too,, either Moto X ,or Nexus . I prefer the LG model of Nexus though :)

I am going with the next Huawei Nexus. metal body and finger print sensor is what I am excited about.

I am not against Moto X pure edition but since i have used nexus 6 i am looking for a change

Ya might wanna rethink the nexus 6. Its said to also have a non removable battery, 3000 Mah battery and no MicroSD slot.

I guess he was talking about new 2015 Nexus coming out later, not Nexus 6 of last year. If rumor is correct, it's going to have larger battery than 3000mAh. Agreed on lack of micro-sd, removable battery though. Nexus never had that.

Lol, yeah. These numbers on these phones are getting as bad as iphones. I meant the new one coming.

It's not too late to get a Note 4 but I imagine soon you won't be able to find a new one. Samsung will probably (if they haven't already) cease production of the Note 4. Many places still sell them... like Amazon. Your carrier may still carry them also. I know Verizon still carries the Note 4, but they stopped selling the Note Edge. DON'T BUY ON EBAY... unless you're willing to take a huge gamble with fakes and phones with problems. There are good sellers on ebay, but I won't buy a phone there. YMMV! There is also Swappa... lots of good used phones there. Kind of more reliable than ebay from what I've heard... I have no personal experience with Swappa. I tend not to buy used phones... but that's just me!

My opinion is that the Note 4 will get me though the next 2 years, no problem... unless it fails for some reason. I too like the removable battery (and SD card) and in fact I just bought a new spare battery with cradle, and a fast charger. Trying to future proof myself before Samsung stops producing those too.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Note 4, but you may have to move faster than you intended to if you're going to buy one.

Just wait until Best Buy sells it for next to nothing again. I bought two at $1 each.

Yes as mentioned I was meaning the upcoming LG Nexus that will be released this fall. As far as the Moto Nexus 6 I own it ,,,its a great device. I also have phones with sd cards and removeable batteries,as well as phones with no sd card or removeable batteries
I never had a problem with either design by the way :)

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus did have removable battery. :) (although it had horrible battery life)

I personally know at least 5 people who got burned when buying from eBay and Swappa. The phones worked fine during the first few months, then they got blacklisted and could no longer working after 6 to 8 months. The problem was the the original owner stopped paying the bills for the account that the subsidized phone came from. The carriers(AT&T and Verizon) blacklisted the phones after that. With Verizon, as long as you don't ever switch SIM cards, then the blacklisting will not affect you. But with AT&T, the phone could be locked out of the network while you're driving down the road.

eBay, PayPal and Swappa buyer protection couldn't help because it had been more than 6 to 8 months after the purchase. One of my friends was able to get her money back, but that's only because AmEx stepped in and helped.

Not good news hearing this about Swappa. Then again, it really depends on the seller and how honest they are, just like on ebay, or even craigslist. Good thing I only buy new phones!

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

Very little in life actually lives up to one's expectations especially when we set the bar so high. Samsung had already cast the Note's design when the S6 was announced, its not like they designed it in 6 months or less. Next year it will be a tweak of this year to see how they can improve. At the end of the day the phones are solid, they just may not be what some want.

Re: If not the Note 5then what?

The rumored LG G4 Pro seems to be a solid alternative if you can wait.

I would still recommend the Note 4 since it's still a great phone with a better price now.
