If only the UI wasn't so ugly

Especially the icons in EMUI. They're huge and dated looking. Anyone agree?

And if you slap on a different launcher, do you even benefit from what makes EMUI good?

Note: I posted this in Mate 10 forum too because I thought it was this forum. Why is the 10 forum higher up??

I agree... EMUI is dreadful (or at least it was when I used an Honor 7X).

What elements of EMUI would you like to preserve? You could always try installing Nova and see whether they're still accessible.

Not sure. I haven't got the phone, haha. I'm just looking into it for now.

But yeah, coming from Pixel 2 which has a beautiful, clean launcher with consistent, round icons, I'm not sure I'd be able to tolerate the Mate's.

You can change the Theme and Icons.

EMUI is definitely a love it or hate it type UI. It has grown on me. It's efficiency for a custom UI and speed make me absolutely love it.

If you want a pretty much pixel launcher experience with lots of customisation I'd recommend Action Launcher. Some people have reported issues with Nova Launcher on the 20 pro but I've seen none with Action Launcher.

I don't find it too ugly. I switched to Nova only because EMUI lacks swipe up to access app drawer. Otherwise, I don't mind EMUI

I switch between action launcher and Nova. Like you I don't mind EMUI but I can't use it without swipe up for app drawer. I hope they add this at some point.

It's just the massive icons I hate really. And the fact they're all different shapes.

Install EMUI Theme Factory from the PlayStore. It's stacked with great themes, and icon packs to choose from to completely change the way even the stock launcher looks. I changed mine to round pixel icons which I think look way better.

Massive icons? Have you adjusted the zoom level of your display??? Also what resolution are you using?

I said it many times if Nova Launcher Prime and Icon packs like Urman wasn't possible I would never own a Huawei or LG phones.

Could be interesting seeing a screenshot of ur massive apps...
I don't have the phone.

I'm just saying, judging by videos of it and EMUI, the icons are ugly.

Good to know there's a theming engine, but are those icon packs etc modern looking? I've had awful experiences with the one on. HTC for example.

Hang on, you don't have the phone, but you're criticising how ugly the icons are - lol

I normally use Nova, but i've stuck with standard launcher and dark theme. Looks pretty nice to me. Clearly all icons look different as they are from different vendors, but the Huawei ones don't stick out in any particular way as being worse than google's ones or whatever. They are the same size as all the other icons as well, they can't be massive or they wouldn't fit in the grid of the launcher??

Never used icon packs before, so maybe I don't know what i'm missing. I'm just used to icons all looking like they were designed by different people, because they were.

I do get what you're saying. I'm not a fan of the stock icons. They're very much like iOS actually but when you see them on review handsets on YouTube etc all mixed up with 3rd party app icons it looks like a total mismatch. Many reviewers/critics of Huawei phones junp straight on to the UI and homescreen too but I largely ignore that knowing it's so easy to change and simple to personalise. This is my homescreen on my Mate 10 Pro so it's gonna be the same as the Mate 20 Pro too. (minimilists won't like all the apps lol)
