If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorder?

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

I don't let the reps unbox it, if they open it then they have to go back and grab an unmolested one. New sales reps always make that mistake

I'll preorder because I hate when they handle my phone.

haha thats a little overboard lol..

i usually have a $50 credit or something when i upgrade so i have to go into VZW. funny enough ive got $50 credit now im gonna use for the Gnexus. I at least let them open it, put in the sim card and battery and they hand it over to me and i never give it back lol.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

It looks as though I will have to wait until it's released in the stores because I will have to return the Droid RAZR that I am currently using. While the RAZR is a great phone, I really want a device that is running stock Android.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

I have never bought a phone directly from a. VW store. Do the reps have to try and set up your phone for you?

When I got my crap-inate from BB, the sales lady insisted on doing it for me even though they were slammed (free phone Friday last October). I had a great Verizon sales rep who was honest and very knowledgeable about what she was talking about. Not to mention smoking hot! Anyway, I wanted to give her the sale since she was so good, even when I told her I wasn't buying that day.

I would let a smoking hot chick set my phone up.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

Couple of (potentially dumb) questions for people with a little more experience with online orders:

a) My main concern -- what's the deal with returns/replacements if you buy online from VZW?

In the unlikely situation that the phone craps out, can I just walk into a VZW store and talk to a rep there or do have deal with mailing it back, waiting on a replacement by mail, etc.?

b) Does ordering online allow you to select your area code and/or number (from an list of available numbers, obviously)?

I live in an area covered by at least half a dozen area codes and there's one I'd really prefer to get (simply to aid my memory, which is embarrassingly abysmal). When I temporarily got a Bionic from the local VZW store, the rep was able to offer me numbers in a couple of different area codes. Likely to get that option online, or are you typically stuck with whatever random number they assign? (Working on the basis that I'm just getting a brand new number; no desire to port my current cell number. In fact I particularly want to dump it!)

Haven't really played the phone game much before, so excuse my noobness...!

I would like to know an answer to that question too. I am adding a line and want a specific area code.

If you buy online you can return in store( a vzw store that is), not sure about the 2nd question because I never did that.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

I plan on getting mine from BB. They do same pre-order schedule as Verizon?

Did this for the first and last time with my Incredible.
It took them over 2 hours to activate the phone. (Some issue with their activation process) Then when I finally got it back, it looked like they rubbed a stick of butter all over it. (and no, she wasn't "smokin hot")

Needless to say, I'd rather set it up myself, and if it gets all greasy, at least it's MY hands doing it.

Great, thanks. :)

And in fact I just answered the second question for myself with a dummy order on VZW's site -- which I probably should have tried first, oops! In case anyone else is curious: yes, you can pick your area code and exchange (i.e. everything but the last 4 digits of the number) directly from a pre-populated list based on the city/state you provide. So good news on both counts!

Verizon's site as really become a lot better since my first run with them. When I ordered my Iphone 4 it was a very smooth process and, the phone was delivered very fast. That's one of the things I actually like about them, since I've returned.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

My father pre ordered the razr and got it the night of Nov 9th, they weren't available in store until the 11th. So there is something to be said about that.....I think there will be a lot of griping going on when people are waiting while others have it.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

If you did the 25 for 50 and want to use it to get the phone, then you need to might need to go to a VZW Store. it says "or telesales" but then it says "not valid at Authorized retailers"

valid for Verizon Wireless retail locations or telesales purchases only; not valid for online purchases or use at Authorized Retailers

I am going on the AM of release day before they open and getting it.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

I am going to pre-order just in case they ship early, but for those of you that are purchasing at the store just tell the sales rep it is a Christmas gift and you do not want it activated at this time.

If they try to insist on activating ask for a manager or state your gonna go to the other store down the road/street...

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

I personally think it's exciting to go to the store early and know you're ahead of the curve :D way back when I got my dare they actually sold it to me a day early.

They do that with cases and are like you will want a case and screen protector because you will drop it. I just say I know I will and will get them on amazon for half the price verizon charges and then walk out..

I'm definitely grabbing a case. My phone gets abused sometimes at work and I need one. I normally would order from Amazon, but I'm not sure if the cases/holsters are interchangeable with cdma and gsm.

No comment, this is a family forum. :D

That's not a bad idea at all, if I didn't already tell the rep my plans. But if anyone is on the fence, ghis should help out.

Supposedly they are interchangable since the difference between the two is so small. Especially the silicone/tpu cases. Plus can't beat the selection that amazon and other online sites have.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

So with all the rumors today that preorders might go live soon, I'm wondering if its a better idea to preorder or to just wait and show up the morning of release.

Pros for me of waiting for the morning of are getting the phone as early as possible, but cons are having to be late to work and worrying about there being enough stock.

For preorder, that means waiting until the end of the day and then hoping that the package people left it rather than making me wait and go pick it up. However it seems more likely there won't be stock issues.

What are your plans? I think I am leaning towards waiting for the release date and going to the store.

Actually in most cases you get preorders the day before launch (sometimes sooner) but this of course isn't guaranteed. I get a corporate discount that does not seem to apply to things I order onlune so I will be in the store release day if possible.

I doubt there will be stock issues on this phone. The general public has no idea what a Galaxy Nexus is. This is mostly a nerd phone, and not high profile like the RAZR and Rezound.

Re: If preorders happen, better to buy release morning or preorde

Since I have to port my number over from AT&T, does anyone know if I can preorder, or will I have to go to a store to handle it all?

You can do that as part of the order process, but there is a chance your old phone could be deactivated before you get the new one. You can also do the port after the fact vie My Verizon or by calling the port center (866-465-5415) which is free and usually only takes a few minutes. You may (probably will) need a new SIM card if you do a post port like that but that is also free in a corporate store.

In your situation I would pre order and activate the new phone with a new number, test it out and a day or so later visit a corporate store and have them do the port for you and give you the new SIM card if needed.
