I made the decision last weekend - moved from a 32GB iPhone 4 to the Note 3.
I looked at both the S5 and the Note 3, but it was the onboard storage that was a deciding factor (and yeah, the S pen is nice, but really haven't had the time or need to explore it fully yet) - especially as in regards to the reported 'issues' with KitKat and microSD cards. I knew (roughly) how much storage I'd take up, based on my iPhone and a Nexus 7 experience and I wanted to be sure I didn't have to rely on a microSD to have what I want on my device. On my carrier, I was looking at around 7.5GB free on the S5, it was 25GB on the Note 3 - and the difference in price (after 'negotiation') between the two was nominal.
