If you join the beta, is there an issue with security updates?

This may be a total noob question... I am thinking of doing the P Beta but will this impact security updates. For example, if they issue a security update after I join the P Beta, will I get it? If not, do the beta updates carry with them the security updates?

you no longer get the monthly security updates if you take part in the beta. you only get beta updates when they become available.

Note: You will not receive monthly security updates while on a beta build.

That is quoted from the beta page. When in beta you won't get monthly updates but you will receive an update once a new beta build is released.
