iGrip Car Dock Problem - Phone or Dock?

I've had the iGrip Car Dock for the Thunderbolt for about 5 months.

Putting the phone on the dock only enables "car mode" about 30% of the time.
70% of the time I have to remove the phone from the dock, and put it back on multiple times to get the phone to go into car mode. Interestingly, the phone still charges 100% of the time. So a connection is being made, but for some reason it doesn't click into "car mode".

I'm defining car mode as the icon that pops of with the car, and tells the phone to leave screen on 100% and go into the HTC sense car application (or 3rd party application, problems with both).

My only thought is poor connection; But it's still charging so I'm not sure that is the issue.

Has anyone had similar issues? Any workarounds?
Additionally, Is there a way to FORCE the phone into car mode? I couldn't find the setting anywhere.

Happens sometimes with mine also but more like 10% of the time. I use a 3rd party app called car home. I have it set to enable car mode whenever I launch the app. I think If you use a 3rd party launcher you can access car panel

+1 on Car Home.....way better than the stock one.

I have the iGrip. It worked flawless before the big updates. Ever since Gingerbread, it's been spotty. I just use the search button, then look for Car Panel. Since all I use the search button for is looking up either Car Panel or Dock Mode, they're both right there for me to select.

I am having the issue too two days in a row no car dock screen. I don't want to use 3rd party really like the igrip app!
