Question Cast Option Missing

Hi. Once again there's an issue now with my YouTube app. The "cast" icon is gone from the home screen . But yes it's there when playing a video.

But, I'd like to connect to the TV before I launch a video.

It used to be located next to the bell.

I updated everything, still no good. How do I first connect to a TV and only then choose what to watch? Thank you

You don't have a major issue atm if it appears on the video thumbnail thing.
Yes it's missing on the top bar thing, at times, but Im thinking it's a work in progress at You Tube's Maintenance Depot.

I'm subscribed to You Tube Lite, and it's only now showing Premium membership on my top left again.

My current workaround is a fairly quick process and it works temporarily. I had no way to Cast You Tube at all.

I think it was getting better last evening for me.

What do we do? I don't know what about you, but I watch YouTube on 5 different screens just in my house...not talking about when I'm in the office or elsewhere. This is garbage..

Your workaround, it is working for me through. I made sure this doesn't update.. But, how are we going to know when we need to? When the app forces me to?

I've been away from hone for a few weeks so rely on my phone, a Chromecast and a Samsung hotel tv.

When at home I watch You Tube via my Windows desktop feeding an older TV via HDMI. I've always been logged in to You Tube there using a browser instead of the app for Windows. I don't need to cast there to watch You Tube, iirc. BTW I don't have home WiFi so I use my phone's data to feed my pc anyway!

I guess you need your phone most of the time to cast, or I might have misunderstood.

I'm hoping a new app version will cure the problem, or it is rectified by You Tube.

As Mustang said in my thread, you can stop You Tube from updating in the Play Store settings, but personally I'm hoping the next version will actually fix it. I don't know when that will come out. (Currently on 21.11.483) It just rolls back once for me to Version 17. - - something and when I uodate it back again the Cast icon reappears until I close the app. I may have more information when I try it again shortly, as it seemed to stay longer, and the Premium badge had reappeared.

You have a different use case to mine.

Do you have Settings, halfway down a list when you select your user icon at the top right? I have just cleared my Cache and Data again and then set my YT app back to the older version using the App Info page.

(I've no idea whether clearing Cache and or Data before or after reverting to the oldest available Version makes any difference)

The reason I ask is under Settings there when just back on my latest Version again 21. 11.483, I have a Watch on TV option that Casts You Tube on my TV like you have been asking. This may or may not be available on your version.

I don't know why you have an older YT version. What device do you have?
Is that the version available when you search You Tube in the Play Store?
I'm no expert on these forums. I was seeking advice myself.

Hopefully you can get further help, or it will rectify itself.

Here's another discovery just now.
After uninstalling updates, going back to a Version 17 and then updating it again to 21.11.473 I do get the Cast icon back on the YT landing screen or whatever it's called PLUS I see my account / username button is on the top right corner.

Five minutes later while typing the above post on Chrome and keeping the YT app running, I go back to You Tube and the Cast icon is missing again and now my account / username button is down on the bottom right plus there is no Watch on TV option in Settings now. I hadn't noticed the button switch before.
See below and note the time.

I'm not spending more time on this for today.
