Wi-fi on when available, auto-sync on for all Google apps, Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin, 40% brightness when indoors, 100% outdoors, dim at night.

I turn everything off including auto sync and only turn on what I need when I need it. I can go to bed with the phone at 100% and wake up to the phone at 100%. I get a day easy with moderate use. Steady internet I get 5-6 hours ,which is better than the laptop I had. This is way better than the stock ROM. I carry a spare battery just in case and have only used it once with this ROM.

What ROM do you use? And i ALWAYS have everything off, except 3G. The rest get turned on when i need them, which is rare. My wifi doesn't even work.
& that waking up with 100% thing, is crazy, that's never happened to me.

Turn your 3g off when your not using it. You'll notice a tremendous increase in battery life.

If you look under my name you will see which ROM and theme I'm currently using.
As far as the 3G is concerned you can go to menu/settings/wireless and networks/mobile network/uncheck the data enabled box. If this is a pain in the rear to deal with all the time, to going to the market and installing a widget app that has a data widget option. After downloading long press any open part of a screen and select the widget app you downloaded. I have a paid widget app because of all the customization it allows me. It's called Extended Controls.

Or just do what i did. Go through all your apps and turn off notifications. My phone deep sleeps constant like it should. Except once a hour to update my email.
