Illumination bar LED swap

Hey there everyone. I'm really bummed about the lack of changing color illumination in the Xperia P. I have an old Sony Ericsson W580i lying around (the ones with 15 changing colors on the side strip), and I was wondering if there was any way in which I could swap out the LEDs from the side of that into the illumination bar of my XP. I don't mind voiding the warranty with all the soldering and rooting that would go into such a project.

If anybody knows how this can be done, or even if it CAN be done for that matter, please do help. I'm enamored with the XU's transparent strip, and I'm totally hating on Sony for making the ridiculous decision to leave that out in succeeding models. Damn you Sony! Burn in hell!

Lol.... All hyperbole aside, anyone know anything about swapping out LEDs in the X series?

I want to add, any other way to achieve anything remotely similar would also be very welcome. I had tried using colored tape, but that doesn't work because the LEDs on XP are so weak and dim. It would work perfectly with the XS I guess.
