I just rooted my 2.1 hero and installed a thing I thought was the overclocked option. Its been an hour and my phone is still stuck on the NOW word in the boot up sequence. It went to my home screen for about a second then froze and I had to reboot. Its still stuck... anything I can do but wait?

If you made a nadroid then just reboot into recovery.Either reboot by pulling battery or plug into pc and open command propmt and type
adb shell reboot recovery
If no nadroid backup then wipe and install a rom of your choice.

Nope i didn't include them in the rom itself but you can flash any of the zips in the link for overclocking or over on xda urushiol has a post with different kinds of overclocking zips for my roms and several others.
