I'm calling it

Man, I would kill to know the back-story on this. Everyone here who rooted and rommed has soak tested this update for months, so we know there's nothing drastically wrong with it. Why would they have to pull the update 3 times when they are going to release it without making any changes?

I think they only pulled it once--on May 1. I don't believe the first 4.0.4 version was ever actually on the servers (could be wrong), and I don't believe that it was taken down after it was put back a week ago.

That being said, who knows lol.

Also that being said, my rom'd GN > stock 4.0.4 GN, 8 days a week.

So you don't have the time or energy to take an hour or 2 (mostly spent on reading instructions) to experience awesomeness? OK

That's only the beginning, and you know it. Once people discover bugs and missing features, because the dude that wrote the rom in his basement in his boxers with a case of mountain dew and cheeto covered fingertips forgot to think of this or that, they will spend hours tinkering and trying to get things working. People who root are always flashing this or that. Constantly in a state of unrest.

There are absolutely NO bugs in aokp period. No missing features period. ABSOLUTELY SOLID rom.
You are so misinformed about custom roms and who makes them. Aokp is written by Roman Birg who is an undergraduate in computer science. Hardly a geek in boxers with cheeto covered fingers.
I do not flash constantly. I have been on aokp milestone 5 for over a month.
Obviously, you are a non root type, but please do not put down custom roms. They are light years ahead of anything stock. If you actually tried it you would know.

Yup, I'm on Tapatalk2 :)

Lolz.

I'm on AOKP and while it is a very good ROM, nothing is perfect.

Bingo, also been running AOKP M5 since April, absolutely perfect

BTW, the founder of CyanogenMod, a rom long hailed as one of the, if not the most popular ROMs out there for pretty much every device, well he turned rom development into working for a very small company that was very, very impressed with his work.

That small company?

Samsung.

Oh yay. They got him contributing to Touch Whiz now? Lol

Damn right I'm the non root type. By choice. Just as you and your kool aid drinkers can try to convince others to root, I can point out the cons of doing so.

And, sorry. Nothing is perfect.

lol I presume so, but I have no idea. I do know that CM strives to be a "legitimate" AOSP replacement, which is part of the reason they switched from their old mascot (Andy, the Cyan-colored, skateboarding Android) to Cid (some weird robot thing, although he looks cool in CM9 icons). CM9 has been fairly slow to develop, but that's not due to quality concerns--they are as professional as they come, and in that way AOKP trails them (but only slightly). As a whole, big operations like CM9 and AOKP represent all that is awesome about Android, and those characterizing their operations as anything less than standup, high quality development collectives simply have not had enough experience with them, their roms, and their general history.

I don't know every mod or advisor here on AC, but I would say every single one of them roots and roms their phone. I would guess even Phil and Jerry do it.
Why?
Because they realize that it's the superior way to run a phone.
You can choose to operate your phone in mediocrity that's cool.

You should look into Motorola phones. Locked bootloader and all, right up your alley...

Kool aid drinkers? I didn't realize Jim Jones was a rom developer.

We root by choice because what we want from our phones stock does not offer. Also, it's a hobby and a personal preference.

Like you said, nothing is perfect. But setting up the phone how I want it gets it close enough.

I will say that Phil has said that he usually doesn't root his phones anymore, saying he really can't be bothered anymore (or something similar).

What rooting boils down to is freedom of choice. Granted a stock phone gives you 10x more options the the other smart phones out there but using a ROM and rooting allows you to not use crap the carriers force down your throat. For some reason the iPhone is the only phone that doesn't get crapware put on it, Android gets a crap load. I root because I want to be able to tether, I rom because I like being able to change quite literally every aspect of my phone. I'm on AOKP milestone 5 and have zero issues. I had zero issues with the phone being stock as well, but I also got tired of Verizon holding back my update which wasn't suppose to happen on a Nexus, so I did it myself and couldn't be happier. I've rooted/hacked every phone(smart phone) I've ever had and never been happier haha.

I don't hate on ppl who don't root. I have never belittled anyone for not rooting. I may have given a slight nudge for folks on the fence. Whatever your choice is fine.
It's just when ppl form a negative opinion without trying both sides, irks me. If that opinion comes after doing a flash or two, I can totally respect that.
I don't think I have ever heard a person that was disappointed and most if not all wonder why they hadn't done it sooner. ;)

Right on that's the way to be! I've been an android user for 3 years now and I'm on the fence about rooting just because I don't have insurance and can't brick my phone. I've only had my Gnex for a couple of months and I know it's the easiest phone to root so I'm going to try and teach myself. The Nexus is an amazing device stock but having complete control over it and being able to apply amazing themes as well makes rooting that much more tempting. I'm waiting on this ota and then the fun will begin. I wish there was a class I could take. lol
