I'm considering upgrading to an Nexus 9

Don't do it, the Nexus 9 is the biggest tablet purchase mistake I've ever made.

The device whilst looks and feels fantastic is extremely sluggish and no matter how many times Google updates it still persists.

I would wait for the Pixel C or look at a Samsung tablet.

I haven't had any lag problems with mine. I had some issues requiring a reboot every so often, but they disappeared with 5.1.1. I use mine primarily for watching streaming media when I'm on the road and it looks great. The audio is decent and I can always use headphones or a Bluetooth speaker if I really want better.

That said, if I was buying new now, I would wait and see what 6.0 and the Pixel C look like.
