I used to LOVE Android and I used to LOVE my Droid, but every since the 4.1.2 "update", it has been nothing but trouble. It lags, freezes, crashes, I can barely browse, text, take pics and talk. I've tried restarting, factory reset and clearing cache; nothing has worked and I've given up. I could wait until next year to get a new phone (which will be an Iphone) but it's at the point now that I'm willing to pay full price for an Iphone 5 rather than dealing with this piece of crap for an entire year. Verizon doesn't have any answers and neither does Motorola, which I completely understand; but someone, somewhere must have an answer to this problem. I know I'm not the only one and I know that other users are just as frustrated as I am. We need a fix for this problem very soon, otherwise, I will trash Android for the rest of its existence.

Welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear about your issue.

I am not sure how to do this myself, as my S3 is very different from Motorola, but if this happened to me with my phone, I would try to reflash the ROM, in hopes that the original flash has a missing or corrupted file. In the event that it doesn't fix it, I would down grade to the prior version. Also, try talking to Moto's technical department. Let them know that you have a problem.

I'd say you're problems are simply with your particular phone and not a result of the android platform. Each to his own but having just spent days trying to get the kinks out of my wife's new iPhone, I can say that I would gladly trade a box full of 'em for one good android. I find them cumbersome in use & generally outdated in comparison not to mention, very limited customization options.

I feel your pain brother. I love Android and I love Maxx. But I know I will have to throw this phone away and look for an updated phone not because I'm tired of it or I broke the phone, but because the phone won't be compatible with Android version n+ and/or carrier's mandatory bloatware that follows such update or apps that only work on the two latest versions. I don't know if iphone is simpler and less glitchy (never owned one), but it sure would be nice if we can just have our phone work like it did just out of the box. But you know what, I think all smartphone/laptop/desktop ("computers") are the same. After a while, the computer "dumbs down" with all the crap you've downloaded over the years that you cant' erase or don't know where to find it to erase or even know if it's safe to erase.

At least with smartphones, it's easier to factory reset. Just a thought.

I've performed 2 factory resets. And I don't expect the phone to work exactly like it did out of the box, I just want it to not lag when I'm texting.... TEXTING. Just simple, ordinary texting. And I'm also a simple person (not to be confused with a "simple" person) so I don't expect my phone to remotely control a satellite, I just want it to work. My wife has an Iphone 5 and it works great with no problems.

Sorry for your problems. If you have warranty or extended warranty then Verizon should send you a replacement. After a few replacements, they may allow you to switch to another phone under warranty

With any phone u should have insurance... Verizon sent me a brand new out of the box razr maxx after i broke my original and the preowned one they sent me wouldn't connect to towers...

Ive never been more happy with android since i got jelly bean..

U need to keep your cool and talk to the right person at Verizon they will fix it for u... But it will take some leg work..

But in all honesty let this person go to apple .. Ill even hold the door for him on his way out with a smile.

I am having the similar troubles. Phone freezes randomly, but especially during texting. Have to hard restart the device multiple times just to have a conversation over text. Have performed a factory reset and run in safe mode and still freezing.

Doesn't seem like there are any answers out there. I am in the same boat, my fiance has iphone and no problems besides normal lagging with age, and less battery after major OS update. I will be getting a 5s shortly.

Can't just keep ignoring texts from my friends and family!!

That's too bad. My guess is that your problems are related to a relatively out of date phone (you didn't mention which one). The newer phones like the Nexus 4/5, Moto X, Droid line, HTC One, Samsung S4, and LG G2 are so much better than phones from even a year ago. If you still have an open mind, I'd suggest trying any of those, but if not, good luck with the iPhone.

Saw in your other post that you have a RAZR Maxx like me. I agree, this used to be a good phone, but I think the cumulative updates to the OS and apps have taken their toll. Periodic cache partition wipes can help a little, but many people suspect the problem lies with the processor, which us from TI. Support for TI processors just isn't there any more, so perhaps these updates aren't as optimized for it. Personally, I can't wait for my upgrade in March!

I agree with the earlier post that your problems are with the specific device and not Android as a whole. To be partially critical, if one is smart enough to post on these forums, one should be able to distinguish between the device and the software.

Disclaimer: I am a huge fan of Android and I am a "power user" that enjoys the ability to customize my phone greatly.

To address your situation specifically yet concisely, if you only need a simple (smart)phone to "TEXT" and maybe run a few apps here and there, then you should just jump the Android ship and go to the Apple ecosystem. Getting less frequent updates means you will get a similar experience 2 years down the line as you did when you purchased the device.

For me specifically, I'm running CyanogenMod 10.1.3 (Android 4.2.2) and I'm still extremely pleased with my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. Prior to running CM, the phone was still above average in my opinion; I just had to manage my running apps more acutely because of bloatware and more advanced (updated) apps.

A few tips I would (re)suggest since it sounds like you've went to the extremes and should have tried these already:
-Don't use Chrome / Stick to the stock browser app.
-Delete old texts. Back them up if you want to keep them, but keep the amount stored on the phone to a minimum.
-----Texting is so outdated and unreliable. Consider a switch to data reliant messaging apps with people you communicate with most often.
-Uninstall unnecessary apps and limit their sync intervals; disable bloatware if possible.

All-in-all, it's just the way technology is. The device is older and the specs are outdated now. I don't know how people don't know how to manage their phone to keep it in good working order. A lot of people would love to have our phones. Truly a case of #FirstWorldProblems.
(The phone did run smoothly when it was on Gingerbread, but I would never want to go back to it. I loved ICS and JB that I learned to manage [not compromise].) *I am not advocating or requiring a custom ROM to achieve usability.

Root the phone. Install a cpu manager and set to performance. This has fixed my lag issues. I have to change after a reboot but it seems to work fine. Loading another ROM would work too. ROMs would have different kernels to allow the total CPU changes. So it should be better.

I feel you, I am getting there with my Galaxy Note 4, I know this is a dated forum post but for me it has been since lollipop 5.0 update. Also had problems before the update too though, major GPS problems even on my last phone which was a Galaxy S4. I love the operating system but I need a phone that works, and the iPhone's I have had before never crapped out on me when I needed them. Say what you want about the closed source iOS at least everything works properly. No lag, no random restarts, barely any random failures compared to what I am dealing with on Android, say what you want fanboys, you are not dealing with my problems....

I have two words only, and you and the others are welcome to go over to iOS. The words are Operator Error. iPhone IS for you, nothing to customize, use it the way they allow you to use it and install ONLY what they want you to install. Go with my blessing. As for me, I LOVE my android. From Gingerbread Razr Maxx to ICS, JB to my S5 and KitKat to Lollipop, to whatever M might become. Love them all and I am staying. Whterher TouchWiz, or CM or my current Google Now launcher which I just LOVE. So again, to each his own. Go for it:D
