I'm Getting Too Much Spam and I'm Getting Too Many Unwanted Messages in My Trash

Every day I check my cellphone's Gmail account and I see a lot of stuff from the New York Daily News, all marked as Spam. I also see several items each day in my trash from people I don't know. This has been going on for months.

I delete all of the stuff from the NYDN and my trash at least twice a day. How can I filter those things so they never get inside my cellphone? I can do that with Thunderbird on my desktop computer, why can't I do something similar on my cellphone?

Are you saying that this all goes straight to your Spam folder? If so, then the Gmail spam filter is working as intended, and there's no need to worry about it. The problem with some of these sites is that if you try to go through the unsubscribe option, that might actually trigger more junk mail and spam. So it's best just to leave it in the Spam inbox and let Gmail get rid of it on a scheduled basis.

Whatever you do, do NOT reply to any of these spam emails from "people" with seemingly real names. They're 99.99% spammers, and if you respond to them, they'll know that your email address is valid, and will therefore bombard you with even more.
