I'm going to have to scrap the S5 if I can't get my POP e-mail working, Help?

Thanks, John. I have Earthlink and a account at a university that uses Outlook. Everything worked like a charm on my Galaxy S3 and I got messages from both accounts smoothly every time. The S5 is another (over-bloated) animal. I'm very disappointed with it. Are you suggesting that I use Yahoo's email client and port my emails from the other accounts to it? I'm still confused.

This is kind of a totally different direction, but I have 2 POP accounts and I let Gmail fetch them. You can even set it up so that when you reply through Gmail, it replies through the POP account so it causes no confusion to the person who originally sent the email. I decided that if I was going to use an Android phone, I should embrace Google and so far, I am very happy with the result. If you are not familiar with what I am talking about, log into gmail on a computer, go to settings and click on the tab "Accounts and Import." You can set it up there.

I am having the same problem and because this is used for my work, will have to get rid of the Galaxy S5 as well if the POP3 account problem does not get fixed. I changed from Blackberry which handled all my email with ease. I love this new Galaxy though but have to be able to work. I can send email okay, all the settings are exactly as they should be, but it will only show one new email and then it disappears and I get the "no mail" notice as well. For a few days, after deleting my Comcast account, it worked great but then the same issues came up.

TMobile cannot seem to help. Hope someone out there can.

I realize you said your email worked fine on your other 2 devices, but could it possibly share some similarities to my issue? My email service provider does not allow you to send emails through their outgoing server from a mobile device if not connected to their network via wifi. So I have to use my mobile service provider's outgoing server when I am anywhere away from home. On the iPhone or iPad you can enter in multiple outgoing servers for one email address, and the phone waterfalls to the right outgoing server to send your email. I haven't been able to find a way to do that on the S5. So when I'm connected to wifi at home it won't send unless I go into settings and change the outgoing server to my email service provider's. Or I have to disconnect from wifi to send an email from my phone with my m obile provider's server. Which is a pain because I have a long security key to re-input when I want to reconnect to wifi at home. Long way of saying ... have you tried your mobile providers outgoing server?

baaaaaa they're for sheep them iphones pal

mymail works a treat, pity about the host email app.

The issue seems to be the failure to accept anything other than 'pop3' as the lead to the server destination... my priovider uses mail. so it implodes...

However entering the correct username and pwd to my pop3 account worked first time on the 'mymail' app

Brilliant back in the game lol

I had an issue with the email app as well (not the google email app). I've had my phone since late April and the email app worked fine (I only have my work email set up with it) but in the last 2 days is simply stopped fetching mail even when I pressed the load new mail button. The only way I could get it to work was to delete the account and then set it up again from scratch but found I was having to do this every morning. After 2 days of this I said screw it and got the MyMail app today and set up will be easy, the test will be to see if it's still working in the morning. A co worker had the same issues but it started hitting him about 3 weeks ago.

I just figured this out. Go into your power saving mode, assuming it is enabled. Turn off background data restriction. Poof, mine worked!

+1000

The MyMail app (free in Play Store) is simply wonderful. So simple to set up and gorgeous graphics with lots of flexibility on how you handle your mail. I LOVE it.

So much better than the native email app that came with the phone it isn't even funny. I disabled the native email app as soon as I had MyMail up and running (which took all of 15 seconds BTW).

Check out the screenshots. Those two are the best mail apps at Android.

Wow, I have the same exact thing happening to me -POP email. I mean, I have a four-year-old HTC Evo 4G and, I'm getting an S5, but it's the HTC that's having issues with apps, I mean, half the time the touch screen stops working and I end up restarting the phone. So annoying when you need to dismiss an alarm.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone with a Verizon account. Email from Earthlink is not getting to me although I can send ok. It syncs fine manually and every 15 minutes all day. Than, at 7:28 pm it stops syncing and the only way I can get my mail is to delete the account and add it again. All settings are accurate. I have talked to tech support at Verizon, Earthlink, and Samsung. Nobody has been able to figure it out. I also turned off peak hours and allow downloading on both wi fi and 4G. What next? Thought it was a setting or one of the virus scanning apps. Deleted virus scanners. No change. Is anybody NOT having this issue? Perhaps we could compare settings.

AWESOME EARTHLINK! You dont hear that name anymore unfortantly I just LOVE their email service and dialup back in 05 when you could stay dialed in for 2 days straight. Now they cut you off after xx time. Not sure now. But I am on cable internet since 2005.

I have a four-year old HTC EVO 4G. I love it, but it doesn't have enough memory to support the numbers of applications I want in it, so I made the upgrade move to the Galaxy S5. To me the S5 is an amazing tool except for one CRITICAL problem ... I cannot for the life of me get my POP e-mail working on it. G-Mail works, but my regular e-mail does not.

My e-mail is provided by Bright House (domain cfl.rr.com). It works great on my PC and on my EVO, but not at all on my S5. I have checked the setup many times myself and with the Bright House technical support folks on the line. The set-up is (or certainly seems to be) correct. Bright House technical support said since they only have a few set-up parameters and I have them all set the same on the two different devices, and the EVO is working, it must be a device issue and I should go back to my device provider (my carrier ... Sprint) and get them to address the problem. The guys in my Sprint store are pretty knowledgeable but after half an hour or so they gave up trying and said it must be a Bright House issue. All I know is that, with everything else being the same, e-mail works on one device and not on the other. So, unless the mere presence of one device precludes the use of another one, I've got to assume that the S5 just ain't gonna work.

When I set up the parameters for the incoming server I get a little message window that pops up that says "Checking incoming server settings" and quickly goes away. The same thing happens when I set up the out going server, "Checking outgoing server settings". When I go into my e-mail, compose a message and send it, I get a message back that says "Send failed". No other error message or code. When I open my e-mail like I would if I wanted to read my e-mail I see the e-,mail icon in the middle of the screen with a caption under it that says "No emails", and an 'explanation' below that that says, "You may have emails that have not yet been retrieved from the server." Really?

If I can't get this thing working by Sunday evening, it's going back Monday morning ... but I'd rather get it running.

Help? Anyone?

my mother is having this issue on her s3 through verizon.... Yahoo has just stopped downloading and I just logged on to her account and it says shes got 600 emails waiting!!! And I set it up the way Yahoo help docs said too.

Also take a look at Blue Mail, it is a nice app that feels like you are using your desktop PC.

It is very versatile.

I'm so happy I found this thread. I was about to take my phone back tomorrow and was bummed because I already paid Best Buy to install the Zagg tempered glass on it. I was on the phone with my hosting company and Verizon for hours and couldn't get my imap email to work. MyMail and BlueMail both work perfectly.

However, PsychDoc said he or she disabled the native email app in 15 seconds. How do you do that?

Thanks!

Zach

I have also had intermittent issues with my Verizon S5. Initially I set-up three of my email accounts using the native app with secure POP settings, and one or two of them would stop working, I deleted the accounts, set them up again and they worked for only a couple of weeks... As I was reading this forum and studying the available third party email client apps, Verizon sent out a system update... et voila! All of the accounts started working again.

Hi JMac7 -- did you ever get an answer to this? I am planning to buy an S5 tomorrow, AND I have Earthlink mail AND use Verizon -- so I'm extremely interested how it worked out for you.

To setup your device mail client, you need to create an app password on Yahoo, in your account Info section (my mobile is a LG3) .
Sign into Yahoo Mail as you normally do on a Desktop Computer (can not do on a mobile device). Go to (top right). Help then Account Info . Scroll down to Sign- In and Security , Setup your second sign-in verification, click onto. It will bring you back to sign into Mail, go on and sign in, it then will bring you to Set up your sign-in verification. Go down to App passwords. Click onto Generate app password. It will generate your password that you then use as your password on your mobile device mail client. You will only use this password this one time . When entering your app password on your device, all you do is key in your ID/name and the app password, then click next. You then name it and next/done.

Hope this helps! It took me a while to find this info on Yahoo, hopefully I save you the trouble. Good luck!!

if there is a way to contact me on here you can do, to get link- new here so not sure..lol
