hello all im jim and new to the android sys. so i have a few questions
1. whats over clocking and should i do it
2. i just rooted my inspire so what kind of os can i get, or which ones are better.

welcome to android central.

overclocking - pretty much increasing the processing power. so a device can have a 1Ghz processor and you overclock to 1.5Ghz. i would really do a lot of research on this before attempting to do so.

there are several roms available, check out the rooting section in A/C or the XDA forums. cyanogen is a very popular rom for pretty much, most of the HTC devices that are rooted.

how on earth did you root your inspire if your a noob?

im pretty decent with android, but dont even know where to begin rooting it

overclocking is really risky isnt it?
imo, any modification can be, especially if the instructions aren't followed to a T.

i think overclocking can reduce the life expectancy of a device or even effect it's performance negatively, like battery life being reduced.

some do it and have no problems, but honestly, the devices that are out now are plenty fast for me and i avoid overclocking. heck, i didn't even bother rooting my atrix, nor do i plan to.

overclocking and rooting also voids your warranty doesn't it? Just like jailbreaking also does?
