So I'm one of the people ranting about image retention. This is my 2nd screen rreplacement and still got this issue.
Now I might have found a solution but I'm not sure yet what's gonna happen afterwards..
Some people say having the brightness on max is one of the reasons why we get IR. But when you have IR, try to put your brightness on high and IR is gone within 5min..
Give it a try and let me know how it went for you..

I've found the only thing to make mine go away is to turn the screen off and give the pixels a rest. Brightness doesn't affect it either way, and those "pixel fixer" videos on YouTube do nothing as well.

Is IR a common problem with this model? I'm thinking of getting one so I wanted to ask.
It's a common problem from what I'm hearing online (and two replacements later). Some people will argue that this is normal for this type of screen, but I call BS. I've only had LG phones in the past and it's ONLY a problem with the V20.

If you use your phone often, you'll likely get IR. You can replace it via warranty, though.

It's a common problem, by it's rather benign as far as design flaws go. It's not permanent burn in like on AMOLED screens, and it's not anything that hurts the performance of the phone itself. It's mostly an aesthetic issue.

Considering how many phones have a design flaw these days, I'll call it the lesser of multiple evils.

I've been using the sfilter app. Set it to 3-5% opacity, and color black.

For some reason this works to remove image retention from my V20 and my older V10. It might not work right away, but give it like a day.

Common image retention problem on this phone.

Supposedly there is a fix on XDA by changing some display settings but you need to root your phone.

Leave it on full screen and max brightness. Don't look at the screen, may cause seizures. 15 minutes should be good. LCD needs to be "refreshed", pixels are stuck at same color.

I rarely ever get image retention. Seems like some people or certain devices are more prone to image retention. Always use lower brightness if possible and use a darker theme. Avoid blue/purple wallpapers bc they seem to cause the problem for me.

Very strange because I almost never get image retention on my V20 and I spend hours on it. Agreed, the display will look awesome even years later.. why do you think PCs all have LCD screens? No screen burn-in. My laptop occasionally gets image retention from using blue/purple wallpapers + max brightness. Look at any old AMOLED screen and there's some burn-in or discoloration. Apple's LCD screen sucks too, it always turns yellow.

Video is not needed. Just put in max brightness and see it go away

It seems everyone has their own solution. Lol.

For me, the video doesn't work. Max brightness doesn't work. Minimum brightness doesn't work. Only turning the display off for a while works.

I use an app called Twilight, it's a blue light filter and it also lowers brightness.. I have it set on circadian auto.. might help some people.

Why replace phone? It always goes away eventually by itself. I just ignore it.

Because it comes back and it gets worse over time. And if you're using your phone for any amount of time, it's very noticeable.

Ya mine comes and goes but I ignore it. It always foes away so it doesn't bother me. I can always see through it.

And between two phones, screen retention was so bad both my girlfriend and I felt like we needed to swap them out. Good for you that you enjoy a defective phone. Maybe yours wasn't as bad as ours. My replacement V20 is already showing signs, but it's not that bad yet.

Perhaps mine is in the "showing signs" stage because I have to really look to see it at all. I just hate reinstalling and setting up everything. It takes days. In many cases I hate the "updated" apps etc. Just laziness on my part. I don't knock you for trying but I'm pretty sure all v20 will have this issue eventually.

You're previous V20's and current ones are not defective.

It is mostly a heat related issue with LG's stock settings for the screen control being most of the problem.(IPS doesn't like heat)

I had very bad screen retention with my V20 and what fixed it for me was simply editing some graphics settings. Unfortunately it required root and custom kernel.

It's a defect. It's a problem that didn't exist on past LG phones.

I've had LG phones since the G3. IPS panels do not have image retention problems. I've owned many IPS monitors as well and image retention only becomes a problem with those when monitors are either overclocked or something wrong in the firmware with say pixel overdrive settings. Fixable with firmware updates on monitors.

It is a defect caused by LG, not a defect of the hardware.
