IMAP pull time

Hi Guys,

Still trying to get used to the Droid, but loving the capability to far (coming from an 8330). Just wondering what a reasonable time is to set IMAP email to pull, without really killing the battery too much. I have GPS turned off, and the backlight set to auto in hopes of preserving battery life. Right now, I have it set to check email every 10 minutes. Is that really going to drain my battery life too quickly, or is that task not too demanding?

Second question: I notice when I hit the lock/power button, emails do not come through. I understand that this is due to the phone being put into "sleep" mode. Yes, the phone still rings if called or text'd, but no email. So my question is, is there any way to LOCK the screen without putting the phone to sleep? I guess the only way I've figured is to just let the screen go until the timeout time. Would not putting the phone to sleep in between uses really have a dramatic impact on my battery life? I'd really like to get real time email, even while I'm not using my phone.

Thanks!

Answer to second question:
I get emails when my phone is in sleep mode/Locked. (When I push the power button on the top)

Try this. Go into settings ->Accounts and Sync --> Check Background Data.

Hopefully that will work for you.

yea, the button on top is supposed to put the screen to sleep, not the phone...
