I'm unlocked & rooted running IMM30B, and am just now getting some time to sit down and figure out how to update to IMM76K. I've been searching around, but haven't really found a clean cut guide from how to go from IMM30B to IMM76K. From what I'm gathering it seems I'm going to need to go to stock ICL53F, and then maybe update some radios, and then go to IMM76K? I've never touched radios before, so I wasn't sure if I needed to go there.

Also, does this mean I'm going to lose my apps and configurations? I would do a backup of IMM30B in CWM before I started, but I don't know if you can restore a backup from IMM30B to ICL53F or IMM76K, if that mucks anything up?

I'm sorry if this has been covered time and time again, I just can't find a clean cut procedure, and don't want to mess up my phone. Thanks to anyone who is able or willing to help.

P3droid released a version of the new 4.0.4 build that can be flashed over any rom.

I used titanium backup and backed up all apps and user data. Next I made a nandroid backup using clockwork mod recovery.

I took the build p3droid supplied, I got it from droid-life.com, and put it onto my phone. I booted into recovery and deleted all data on my phone, then I cleared the cache and then installed the zip build that I just put on my phone.

Now I had a fresh install of the new 4.0.4. I tried to keep my root using voodoo root keeper but that didn't work so i downloaded the newest verzion of superboot and put the zip on my phone then I went back to recovery and using adb I launched clockwork mod recovery. Once in clockwork mod I flashed the super boot zip and then restarted. I was now rooted again.

I then went back to titanium backup and restored all apps and data.

I am now on the new build and have everything I had before. The process was simple enough and I am happy now.

I am not an expert in this but am more than willing to try to answer any questions and help.

If you can't locate the proper files or just want more in depth instructions on how I did it then just let me know and I will try my best.

Thanks for the help guys. So let's assume I flash this update_imm76k.zip in CWM recovery from P3droid. Before I do that, if I create a backup in CWM recovery, and then after I've flashed to IMM76K, I do a restore backup in CWM recovery, will everything be kosher? Will flashing to IMM76K overwrite my backup assuming I don't move it elsewhere? I appreciate the info, I really don't do this stuff very often. I was just interested in getting the latest version of android for bug fixes and such, and didn't feel like waiting on vzw to release the update.

No, if you restore the backup, it will put your phone back to the way it was when you ran the backup. Backup all your apps with Titanium Backup, do a backup in Recovery so you can go back if things go to hell, factory reset, wipe dalvik, flash new ZIP, flash new radios, reboot, install titanium backup and restore missing apps with data (not system data).

When you get good at this sort of thing, it takes 15-20 minutes :).

I installed the IMM76K from Droid-Life on my GNEX with IMM30B a few days ago.
Everything went smooth and all of my apps and data were intact after the update. I didn't need to restore anything.

Well, I'm now running IMM76K, but it wasn't as seamless an upgrade as I was hoping for. Titanium Backup got some of the apps, but apparently not all of them, and I am pretty much rebuilding 80% of the phone. Oh well, at least I'm running the latest software. Definitely not venturing off the official update path again. Anywho, thanks for all the help and pointing me in the right direction! :D

just to make sure, the method you used to update from IMM30b to IMM76K requires root access, is that correct? if so, do you know of any way to update on my locked, unrooted phone? thanks in advance

You have a locked, unrooted IMM30B phone? If so, you're going to have to get tricky in order to update. For starters, you won't be able to receive the OTA, and because you're unlocked, you can't flash CWM in order to install it manually. That also rules out flashing the "rom" version.
