in my samsung a5 2016 the screen doesn't on during a call .indian handset

proximity sensor during not working, i think???????????????????
. its a new phone bought on feb 8 , we had a screen protecter on it. nothing else. my problem is that during calls if i take the phone from ear while talking and see to it its sreen display turns on and shows us some setting like speaker ,extra volume, add call but in this it is not showing
,,,we are pressing the home key to light it up its to sluggy please give suggestions and fix it right away . this phone is a gift. the mobile is bought in india and being used in india with an idea sim operater.
