In store pre order appointment?

Went to my local VZW store (small...located in a miniMall). Asked about getting a DX on release date. The CSR told me all I had to do is leave a $100 deposit to hold one for me. Was told they would call me when it arrived.

Sounds like you may not be seeing that $100 again. Lol, jk that's really cool actually. I'm going early next week to see if a tore can do something like that for me/

I went in about a month ago looking around at good web browser phone options as I've been on a berry for a while. I explained that my main concern was a nice portable browser and that I would likely never use it as an actual phone since my BB is mandatory for work.

She showed me the incredible but warned me that they were very hard to get hold of and might be several weeks of a wait. Then she looked like she thought of something and said, "you need to put this off a month; can you wait?". I said sure and last week she called and said, "Can you come see me on the 15th and if so, what time?" and again, I said sure. She said she would have the perfect phone for me and that she was sure I'd be happy with it. Said it was called the Droid X and that I should look it up.

That's generally why I don't order online. For all the bad rap VZW gets, that's the kind of service I've had for years and years. She could have just taken my money for an incredible and been done with me in 15 minutes but she both knew about the phone coming out AND knew it would fit me better (I was hoping for a larger screen than the Incredible) so she followed up and will get my sale. She'll also get my BB upgrade in about six months when I look for a BB OS 6 device.

Just thought I'd share my DX Appointment story.

I spoke to a BB moblie rep on the phone earlier this week and she told me then that BB would be calling with appointment times this week. I hadn't gotten a call and was in the store today and thought I'd stop by and ask about it. She told me that they hadn't made any calls and that the phones wouldn't be in until the 15th and that was when they would start making calls. Just thought I'd share what I was told... Anyone gotten a apt. time confirmation call from BB?

Just a heads up, I saw on BB's forums that someone had a similar question and one of the employees and one of the mods both responded with the same answer. That is that the stores typically start calling when they receive confirmation of how much inventory they'll be getting which is usually a day or two before launch.

So glad I was the #1 pre-order at my local BB.

So I just got back from my local Verizon store (witch i hate by the way) they have never treated me with respect so i tend to just call Verizon instead of going to the store. They first argued with me about the Droid x release date (they said it was released on friday) When i asked another CSR they said " The Droid what?" i literally almost cracked up in the store. then the manager came and talked with me and said that because corporate had not told them they had to open early they arnt planing on it and told me i was lieing when i told him about some stores having a Pre-order appointment list. Needless to say i plan on emailing him with a link to this forum. lol Oh well

I am traveling to Campaign IL. next week, and have a appointment for the 15th at the local Corp. Verizon store, and the gal told me they had over 100 folks on the list when I checked back in. She said they expect there supply to be like the Droid 1 launch where the got over 200 phones......That seems like alot, but she also said they sold out the first day during the Droid 1 launch....

found out this morning exactly what the list means (at least here at my local store). apparently in a meeting this morning the manager told the CSRs that the list is there so those on it can walk in, get the phone, activate it, and get out. each person scheduled (assuming all goes well) can walk in and have a CSR waiting on them so no milling around waiting.

I walked in today just trying to get my hands on a demo and she made me an appointment for 9 am when they open. she even gave me a card and told me to call her on the way? and to call tommorow 07/14 to confirm i will be coming. soooo yea i have an appoinment first thing in the am. she says she expects a line. so ill be a lil early just in case but i do have a 9 am appointment.

Most stores only have dummy phones. I don't know if that's what you meant, but they really only help you gauge the size and weight of the device anyway. You can't actually play with the UI or widgets.

yea a dummy would have been fine but she looked at an employee im assuming is a supervisor you pretty much said no "they" wont let us until 07/15. i just wanted to guage the size and feel it i kinda know what to expect out of the ui from the reviews.

Well I'll just tease you a little then and say I was blown away by the size. It's the perfect size, at least for me (I have pretty big hands), and it'll fit in my regular jeans pockets no problem (I rarely wear any tight fitting pants). It's thinner than my Storm2, only a little taller, and many times cooler looking.

I agree with the size.. I haven't had a storm since the Eris came out.. But that was a big heavy phone. Especially in a case.
