Since I'm considering this beast as a replacement for a Palm Pre, I'll probably wait until it hits the stores. This is a big jump for me, new OS and a new phone that is HUGE compared to my current phone. If it ends up online only, then I'll probably just get it and if I don't like it maybe my wife will. I'll sell it to someone who wants it off contract. Still, I would prefer to at least hold it.

Online is the only way I have ever purchased a phone, so the Verizon store thing is new to me however I have been stopping by my local store every few weeks and have sent them some emails. Stopped in last week and the guy said he had something on order for me. ??? So maybe this will not be true now?

Ordering online I think the phone arrived in 1 or 2 days....I can wait a few days anyway. I don't remember if I had to sign for it, but I prefer signing and not having them leave the thing at my front door.

So there is this report about the cases arriving at the store. I guess this report might be wrong. Why would cases show up at the store if you can't buy the thing there? Just buy them online.

Question for those who have purchased online. Will I be able to activate my girlfriend's line on my old phone once I upgrade to the galaxy nexus or will I still need to go into a brick and mortar to accomplish that part of it?

She's getting my Incredible once I get the Nexus.

Edit: This is, of course, assuming the Nexus is only available online.

For a 3G phone like the Incredible, all you have to do is call *228 and follow the prompts. It will ask you what number you are inquiring about. Put in her number, then follow the prompt to activate.

Again, this is 3G phones only. 4G SIMS are activated by dialing an 800 number from a separate device.

As for the topic, an online only launch is absolutely fine with me. For the same reasons others have stated.... was going to anyway/prefer to avoid salespersons.

I'm thorougly annoyed/pissed at Amazon right now. Ordered a nice point-and-shoot camera ($365). It shows up. I open the box, put in the battery, a memory card, turn it on..... hmmmmmm.... why is the shutter release button jammed? Is there some type of locking mechanism on this camera I don't know about? Look at the manual..... nope. Ohhhhhh..... is that SAND stuck in the little crevices around the shutter release button!?!?!?!? Indeed, it is. Then it dawned on me that when I first turned on the camera, it did not go through the setup process right away like it was supposed to.

They sent me a USED and BROKEN camera. It was from their fulfillment center. The seller told me that they are sure this was Amazon's screw up and a number of things could have happened and I tend to agree with them. They send new stock directly from Panasonic to Amazon's DC.

Anyway, you could imagine who utterly pissed I was that I sent them $365 and they sent me a brick.

I know......off track totally with this story but I'm still bitter. Bought a new one at Best Buy online and should have it tomorrow. At least with them, I can take it to the store and yell at someone in person.

Yes, you can add a line online. I've done it in the past in order to take advantage of the upgrade pricing instead of paying full retail.

FWIW: I don't think it's just Verizon to blame.

We're in a weird place here, right? Bunch of big players in one room. Verizon, known for being, shall we say, picky. Google, cause it's a Nexus phone, and Samsung, because it's the OEM.

It's interesting to think about how things have changed form the Nexus One, when HTC was more of a behind the scenes (ie traditional) OEM. It's not like HTC's logo wasn't on the phone, but neither was it called the HTC Nexus One.

I agree, the Nexus One was a awesome buying experience for me because, it was all new. It was cool to see a Google phone. It seemed like it was hardly any involvement from the carrier or manufacture, I guess that was both good and bad, in some ways.

I don't mind buying online because that's how I was going to buy it also.

Additional comment: The only problem I have with online ordering the 17th is that is the day of my son's spinal fusion surgery. Since I am not sure exactly where we are staying at (Ronald McDonald House, or a motel) I really cant give them a shipping address. No one will be at home from the 16th till at least the following Saturday.

I wonder if i can have it shipped to a local VZW store close to the hospital and pick it up there.
